Abia State Polytechnic is a state government owned Polytechnic established in 1992 and located in Aba, Abia State, Nigeria. [1] The Polytechnic is composed of different schools, such as the School of Science & Engineering and the School of Business Administration. [2]

Contents

The school's colors are yellow and dark red. The former rector is Onukaogu Abalogun A. [3] The Polytechnic is near the Eyimba International Stadium in Aba.

The Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti appointed Dr Okoro Christopher Kalu as the rector of Polytechnic in March 2024. [4] [5] [6]

History

The Abia State Polytechnic, Aba was established by edit No.8 of 1994 which has a retrospective effect from October 1992. Its location is the former Girls Technical College(GTC) Aba, along Aba Owerri road. The initial intake comprises students taking various certificate programmes. The National Diploma Programmes commenced in the 1994/1995 academic year. The higher National Diploma Programmes were introduced in the 1999/2000 session. [7]

On November 7, 2024, Abia State Polytechnic was renamed to Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, to honour the legacy of the first Executive Governor of Abia State, the late Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu. [8]

Library

The library provide information resources both online and hard copies that supposed teaching and learning in the polytechnic. The Library is headed by Librarian named Mr.Chigozie Martin Ndulaka. [9]

According to the latest version of JAMB admission brochure, Abia State Polytechnic offers the following courses/programmes at National Diploma (ND) level. [3]

Courses like Biology/Microbiology and Chemistry/Biochemistry are only available at HND level. [10]

Nkechi Justina Nwaogu, is a Nigerian politician and banker, founder and CEO Libra Investment. She is the former Chairman Governing Council and Pro Chancellor University of Calabar. Nwaogu was the Member representing Osisioma Ngwa, Ugwunagbo and Obi Ngwa Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007. In 2007 she was elected as the Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District. In 2011 she was re-elected for a second tenure in office.

Ikwuano is a Local Government Area of Abia State, Nigeria. Its headquarters is in Isiala Oboro. The name 'Ikwuano' etymologically indicates that there are four different ancient kingdoms that make up the community called Ikwuano. These include Oboro, Ibere, Ariam/Usaka and Oloko.

Alex Otti is a Nigerian economist, banker, investor, philanthropist, and politician, serving as the current Governor of Abia State in Nigeria. He is from Atani, Arochukwu originally. Otti is the former Group Managing Director of Diamond Bank Plc, a retail financial institution in Nigeria. Otti was a gubernatorial candidate of Abia State on the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). On 31 December 2015, The Court of Appeal which sat in Owerri removed Okezie Ikpeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party as governor of Abia State and declared Otti the winner of the April 11 and April 25 Governorship elections in the state. On February 3, 2016, the Supreme Court of Nigeria reversed the verdict of the Court of Appeal and affirmed the election of Ikpeazu as Governor. Otti is a member of the editorial board of Thisday, and writes a fortnightly column, every other Monday, titled "Outside The Box".

The Federal Polytechnic, Ekowe is a federal government higher education institution located in Ekowe, Bayelsa State, Nigeria. The current substantive Rector is Dr. Agbabiaka Adegoke L. The Polytechnic offer programmes in different fields of human knowledge, including Social Sciences, Basic Sciences and Agricultural Sciences.
