Abide Weekend is an annual Christian youth conference based in Canterbury, Kent. [1] It is hosted by a collaboration of three Christian charities: Scripture Union, Urban Saints (formerly 'Crusaders') and Change Youth.
In 2013 Dave Pickett, then director of Kent-based charity 'Change Youth', [2] began a new venture to bring youth groups from across the South East of England together for Christian teaching and worship. Once a core team had been formed, Abide Weekend swiftly gained the backing of two large Christian charities based in the United Kingdom - Scripture Union [3] and Urban Saints. [4] The first Abide Weekend conference took place in the Summer of 2014 under the leadership of Dave Pickett. The conference was the inspiration of Dave Pickett and his right-hand man, Adam Gauton, who had volunteered for youth work alongside Dave for over three years.
Over 200 young people, leaders and volunteers attended the first Abide Weekend conference which took place in a Scout campsite near Canterbury - Ross Wood Campsite. [5] The ambitious organisation have set high targets for 2015, as they aim to double their attendance in the event's second year.

The first year of Abide Weekend saw worship led by London-based worship band Worship Central alongside worship leader Tom Read (formerly of The Vine Band). Speakers included Jonny Hughes, the student worker of Holy Trinity Brompton church in South Kensington [6] (and cousin of worship leader Tim Hughes), as well as Steve Morris, youth pastor at Chafford Hundred Community Church, [7] and Phil Hulks, the Cluster Development Director for Urban Saints. [8] The weekend was designed to focus on three main themes: Worship, Leadership and Discipleship. Seminars were based around these three themes and Main Meetings were designed to bring these themes together.

Contemporary worship music (CWM), also known as praise and worship music, is a defined genre of Christian music used in contemporary worship. The Alpha course is an evangelistic course which seeks to introduce the basics of the Christian faith through a series of talks and discussions. It is described by its organisers as "an opportunity to explore the meaning of life". Alpha courses are run in churches, homes, workplaces, prisons, universities and a wide variety of other locations. The course began in Britain and is run around the world by various Christian denominations.
Alternative worship is "what happens when people create worship for themselves," according to Steve Collins. As a phenomenon it began mainly in Europe, Australia and New Zealand in the late 1980s and early 1990s. It is practiced by Christians across the age-range, although has a particular following amongst adults in their 20s and 30s.

Timothy David Llewelyn Hughes is a British worship leader, singer, songwriter, and Anglican priest. Formerly the director of worship at Holy Trinity Brompton, a large Anglican church in central London, he has since been ordained as a minister in the Church of England and appointed Vicar of St Luke's, Gas Street Birmingham. He leads Worship Central, an international worship training and resource centre. Hughes has written a number of songs that are sung worldwide, including the Dove Award-winning "Here I Am to Worship", "Happy Day", "Beautiful One", "Jesus Saves", "At Your Name", and "The Way".
Hillsong United is a worship band that originated as a part of Hillsong Church. Formed in 1998 as part of Hillsong's youth ministry, the band consists of several rotating worship leaders from the church, including Joel Houston, Taya Smith-Gaukrodger, Matt Crocker, Jonathon Douglass, Brooke Fraser, Jad Gillies and Benjamin Hastings. Due to several songs written by the youth ministry, Hillsong Worship leader Darlene Zschech recommended that they record an album, which resulted in their debut extended play, One, which was released alongside the Hillsong Worship album Touching Heaven Changing Earth. Since then, the group has released fourteen live albums, as well as five studio albums. The band composes songs and performs in church services as well as concerts in worldwide tours.

Open Heaven / River Wild is the 24th live album of Hillsong Worship, which consists of several worship pastors from Australian church Hillsong Church. The album was recorded during the 2015 Hillsong Conference at the Sydney SuperDome from 29 June until 3 July 2015 and was released on 16 October 2015, under Hillsong Music, Sparrow Records and Capitol Christian Music Group; this marks the first time the church's annual worship album was recorded entirely during the conference, as opposed to the annual July releases that coincide with the event. Michael Guy Chislett oversaw production of the album, while Hillsong senior pastor Brian Houston and his son, worship leader Joel Houston, served as executive producers.
