Abiodun Humphrey Adebayo is a professor of biochemistry and he is the current vice-chancellor of Covenant University. He is also a member of the accreditation panel of National Universities Commission. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Biography

Adebayo, who is the current vice-chancellor, is an elected member of the governing board of the Association of African Universities (AAU). He was also elected into the governing council of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, where he serves as a council member and trustee. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Young Academy and the Chartered Institute of Administration.

Adebayo obtained a B.Sc. (honours) degree in biochemistry from the University of Calabar in 2000. He later proceeded to the University of Jos in 2003 and was awarded an M.Sc. degree in biochemistry in 2005. Adebayo was awarded a PhD degree in biochemistry by Covenant University, Ota in 2009. He undertook a postdoctoral study at the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2012-2013.

He specialized in plant biochemistry and has been actively involved in the sustainable use of indigenous medicinal plants. His main research focus is on phytochemical, biochemical and toxicity studies of medicinal plants. His research on medicinal plants involves the purification, isolation and characterization of active compounds from plants; these compounds are in turn screened for anticancer, antiviral, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. Prof. Adebayo is also involved in the safety evaluation of locally used medicinal plants using biochemical, haematological and histopathological indices of toxicity.

Adebayo, who is a recipient of the prestigious Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) Fellowship awards, has published in reputable local and international journals. His astuteness has earned him three times prize of Covenant University High Impact Journal publication awards for the years 2010, 2011 and 2012. He won a research equipment grant from the Ministry of Science and Technology, China. His research group won the TWAS research grant for carrying out a study on the "Preclinical evaluation of novel computational-aided designed compounds as antimalarial drug candidates". The fund also made provision for the award of scholarship for MSc students. Adebayo reviews some high-impact journals. He is also listed on the editorial board of some international journals.

Adebayo’s biography was listed and published in the 30th edition of Marquis Who’s Who in the World in the United States. Adebayo, who was the chair of the Covenant University Farm Board and Drug Procurement Committee and a professor in the department of biochemistry, is a former dean of the school of postgraduate studies, Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria.

Peter Bordier Høj is a Danish-Australian academic and Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Adelaide. He has previously served as Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Queensland and the University of South Australia. Educated at the University of Copenhagen, Høj completed a Bachelor of Science where he majored in biochemistry and chemistry, a Master of Science in biochemistry and genetics and a Doctor of Philosophy in Photosynthesis. He has worked in Denmark and Australia as a researcher and published multiple scientific articles. Syed Zafar Hasnain Zaidi Urdu: سید ظفر حسنین زیدی was a Pakistani scientific researcher, and professor who introduced the concept of Protein Chemistry in Pakistan. He was decorated twice by the Government of Pakistan for his contributions to Scientific Research in Pakistan, being awarded Tamgha-e-Imtiaz in 1989 and Sitar-e-Imtiaz in 1995. Professor Akbar Masood is the Vice Chancellor at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in Jammu and Kashmir. Before joining Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, he served as the Dean of Academic Affairs at the University of Kashmir. He has a Master of Sciences from Aligarh Muslim University and a PhD from the Indian Institute of Toxicology Research. He remained associated with the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Kashmir as a member of the faculty since 1988. He was appointed Vice-Chancellor of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in February 2021.

Adenike Temidayo Oladiji is a Nigerian academic and the first female vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure. Her appointment was ratified by the governing council of the institution at its special meeting held on 13 May 2022. She succeeded professor Joseph Fuwape, whose term ended on Monday 23 May 2022. Prior to her appointment, she held various positions and served on University Committees in the University of Ilorin as Chairman and Member.

Dominic Were Makawiti was a Kenyan biochemist. He served as Vice Chancellor of Maseno University and was an elected fellow and former treasurer of the African Academy of Sciences.

Ebenezer Olatunde Farombi is a Nigerian professor of Biochemistry and Toxicology at the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan. He is the Dean of the college and also the director, Molecular Drug Metabolism and Toxicology Laboratories in the University. He is a member of the Nigerian Academy of Science.
