Basutoland was a British Crown colony that existed from 1884 to 1966 in present-day Lesotho, bordered with the Cape Colony, Natal Colony and Orange River Colony until 1910 and completely surrounded by South Africa from 1910. Though the Basotho and their territory had been under British control starting in 1868, the Cape Colony was unpopular and unable to control the territory. As a result, Basutoland was brought under direct authority of Queen Victoria, via the High Commissioner, and run by an Executive Council presided over by a series of British Resident Commissioners.
The Pan Africanist Congress of Azania, often shortened to the Pan Africanist Congress (PAC), is a South African pan-Africanist national liberation movement that is now a political party. It was founded by an Africanist group, led by Robert Sobukwe, that broke away from the African National Congress (ANC) in 1959, as the PAC objected to the ANC's theory that "the land belongs to all who live in it both white and black" and also rejected a multiracialist worldview, instead advocating a South Africa based on African nationalism.
The Pan-African Parliament (PAP), also known as the African Parliament, is the legislative body of the African Union. It held its inaugural session in March 2004. The Parliament exercises oversight, and has advisory and consultative powers, having lasting for the first five years. Initially the seat of the Pan-African Parliament was in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, but was later moved to Midrand, South Africa. The goal in establishing the parliament was creating a space where people from all states of Africa could meet, deliberate, and pass some policy on issues that affect the entire continent of Africa.

Enchi is a town in Ghana. It is the capital of the Aowin Municipality. Idriss Ndélé Moussa Yayami was a Chadian dental surgeon, academic and politician. He was the president of the African Union's Pan-African Parliament from 2009 to 2012. He became president on 29 May 2009. The other leading contenders for the presidency were Sawadogo Lassane and Mostefa Abdelaziz El-Gendy. Moussa received a majority of votes of the members of the Pan-African Parliament.
Jerónimo Elavoko Wanga was an Angolan politician who was a member of the Pan-African Parliament from 2004 until his death in 2007. Born in 1934 in the Bié Province, Wanga studied mathematics and originally worked as a teacher. He was later elected in Bié's electoral circle. When Angola gained independence from Portugal in 1975, Wanga served as the Minister of Education for the Transitional Government. He was also the second vice president of the National Assembly where he was, among other functions, the chief of the UNITA parliamentary group.
Abel Epalanga Chivukuvuku is an Angolan politician and leader of the Broad Convergence for the Salvation of Angola electoral alliance (CASA-CE). Previously, as a long-time member of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), he served as the Chief of UNITA's Parliament from October 1998 to September 2000.
Parliament of Sierra Leone is the legislative branch of the government of Sierra Leone. It is principally responsible for making laws. The Sierra Leone parliament consists of 149 members, of which 135 members are directly elected from across Sierra Leone's 16 districts, while 14 are paramount chiefs appointed from the 14 rural districts. The parliament is led by the Speaker of the House; the position is currently held by Abass Bundu of the Sierra Leone People's Party. The current elected 135 ordinary members of parliament are composed of members of the All People's Congress and the Sierra Leone People's Party which are the two largest political parties in Sierra Leone.
Joram Macdonald Gumbo is a Zimbabwean politician, member of parliament, former member of the Pan-African Parliament from Zimbabwe, and former cabinet minister. He is a member of the Zanu-PF party.
Paurina Gwanyanya Mpariwa, sometimes written as Paurine Mpariwa, is a member of the Pan-African Parliament from Zimbabwe. Mpariwa is the chair of the Public Accounts Committee.
Lee Ledogo Maeba is a Nigerian politician who was elected senator for the Rivers State South East constituency on the People's Democratic Party (PDP) platform in April 2003, at age 37, and was reelected in April 2007. As of 15 March 2004, Maeba was a member of the Pan-African Parliament. He was a member of the Committee on Trade, Customs and Immigration Matters, one of the Ten Permanent Committees of the Pan-African Parliament.
Enoch Teye Mensah, commonly known as E. T. Mensah, was a Ghanaian politician. He was Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram from 7 January 1997 to 7 January 2017 and held ministerial offices in the presidential administrations of Jerry Rawlings from 1993 to 2001 and John Atta Mills from 2010 to 2012 in Ghana.
Nyiko Floyd Shivambu is a South African politician serving as a member of parliament for the Economic Freedom Fighters. He was born in Malamulele, Limpopo. He is the Deputy President and lieutenant commander-in-chief of the Economic Freedom Fighters, its Parliamentary Chief Whip in the South African Parliament, who serves in the Trade and Industry Portfolio Committee and the Standing Committee on Finance. Shivambu is also a Member of the Pan African Parliament, serving in the Rural Economy, Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Committee.
Roger Nkodo Dang is a Cameroonian politician. He became President of the Pan-African Parliament in 2015. On 27 May 2015, he obtained 85 votes to be elected as the successor to former president Bethel Nnaemeka Amadi. Dang is a member of the National Assembly of Cameroon.
Thembekile Richard Majola is a South African politician who served as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa for the Democratic Alliance (DA) from 2014 until his resignation from the party in 2024. He was the deputy speaker of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament from 2009 to 2012 and the speaker from 2012 to 2014.
Michael Afedi Gizo is a Ghanaian politician. He is a former member of the 3rd parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana. He represented the Dangme West which is now Shai-Osudoku constituency in the Greater Accra Region on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Fortune Z. Charumbira is a politician from Zimbabwe who is serving as President of Pan-African Parliament from June 29, 2022 and Zimbabwe Council of Chiefs from 2013. He also served as 4th Vice President of Pan-African Parliament and Deputy Minister of Ministry of Local Government and Public Works of Zimbabwe during 2000s.
