Lumumba William Gerald Mutumanje (born 29 September 1988), known as Acie Lumumba, is a Zimbabwean politician. He made accusations of corruption and misconduct against leading Zimbabwean politicians and institutions. He was briefly head of communications for the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development in October 2018, and was subsequently himself charged with corruption.

Career

Lumumba is a Zanu-PF activist who was appointed by Zimbabwe’s Minister of Finance and Economic development Mthuli Ncube to head the ministry’s communications task force. [2] He was fired three days after his appointment, after he accused the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBOZ) of supplying the Black market with Zimbabwean bond notes. [3] [4] [5] Zimbabwe's Minister of Energy and Power Development, Jorum Gumbo dismissed claims made by Lumumba that a cartel controlled the country's fuel industry. [6] In 2013, Lumumba ran for parliament in a bid to represent the Hatfield Constituency under Zanu-PF. He lost to Tapiwa Mashakada of the Movement for Democratic Change – Tsvangirai (MDC-T) the Minister of Investment Promotion and Economic Planning. [7] In 2016, Lumumba publicly accused Zimbabwe's Indigenisation Minister Patrick Zhuwao of corruption and extortion over Old Mutual shares after Zhuwao had fired him. [8] In October 2018, Lumumba exposed senior executives at RBOZ including businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei for alleged corruption and illegal foreign exchange market trading. [9]

Arrests

In 2016, Lumumba insulted former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe during a televised speech and was arrested until he was released on USD $400 bail. [10] In November 2018, Lumumba was arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) over corruption charges. [11] [12] [13]

Personal life

Lumumba was born in 1988, to a domestic worker in Epworth, Harare, and lived abroad for a number of years. [14] In 2016, Lumumba made headlines when a sex tape in which he appeared was leaked on social media. [15] [16]

Before that he was Minister of Youth Development, Indigenisation and Empowerment, and Minister of the Environment, Water and Climate. In October 2020, the Zimbabwe government sought Kasukuwere's extradition after issuing a warrant for his arrest. It was revealed that Kasukuwere was among loyalists of former President Robert Mugabe who fled to South Africa before their criminal trials could be completed.

Welshman Ncube is a Zimbabwean lawyer, businessman and politician. He is the founding MDC leader and former President of Zimbabwean political party Movement for Democratic Change – Ncube. He currently serves within the Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC). He is a practicing lawyer in the firm Mathonsi Ncube Law Chambers, where he is the senior partner at their Bulawayo offices. He also runs a number of business ventures, including a farm in the Midlands Province.

Arthur Guseni Oliver Mutambara is a Zimbabwean politician. He became the president of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) in February 2006. He has worked as a director and CEO of Africa Technology and Business Institute since September 2003. Under a September 2008 power-sharing agreement, Mutambara served in the government as one of two Deputy Prime Ministers from 2009 to 2013.

Nathan Shamuyarira was a Zimbabwean nationalist who at different times fought on behalf of and helped lead FROLIZI, ZANU, and ZAPU. He later served as the Information Minister of Zimbabwe and as the Information Secretary of ZANU PF. He was writing President Robert Mugabe's biography at the time of his death.

General elections were held in Zimbabwe on 29 March 2008 to elect the President and Parliament. Because of Zimbabwe's dire economic situation, the elections were expected to provide incumbent President Robert Mugabe with his toughest electoral challenge to date. Mugabe's opponents were critical of the handling of the electoral process, and the government was accused of planning to rig the election. Human Rights Watch said that the election was likely to be "deeply flawed."

Generation 40 (G40) was a faction of the Zimbabwe African National Union – Patriotic Front (ZANU–PF). The G40 was an informal group of ZANU–PF politicians working on generation change by replacing the older officials of the party. The group promoted itself as the younger, savvy, and well educated ZANU–PF members. It was said to be led by Jonathan Moyo and ZANU–PF political commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere but fronted by Grace Mugabe, the former First Lady of Zimbabwe.

Patrick Zhuwao is a Zimbabwean businessman, farmer, and politician. He served as Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare between October and November 2017. He was expelled from the ruling ZANU–PF party during the 2017 Zimbabwean coup d'état.

Beauty Lily Zhuwao is a Zimbabwean politician and the wife of former government minister Patrick Zhuwao. She is also the daughter-in-law of Sabina Mugabe, the sister of former President Robert Mugabe. Prior to 2015, Zhuwao was active in ZANU–PF politics, serving for several years as the Women's League provincial treasurer for Mashonaland West Province.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2018 Bulawayo bombing</span> Bomb explosion in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe

On 23 June 2018, a grenade exploded at White City Stadium in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The blast occurred at a ZANU–PF campaign rally, just after President Emmerson Mnangagwa had finished giving a speech. It was described as an assassination attempt against Mnangagwa, who was unharmed. The bombing resulted in at least 49 injured, including Vice-Presidents Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi, and other high-ranking government officials. Two security agents later died of their injuries.

Jason Zhuwao is a Zimbabwean politician. He is a former ZANU–PF Director for Youth Affairs and son of former Minister of Youth Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Patrick Zhuwao and nephew to former Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe. Zhuwao served under his father's ministry youth advisory board and held different government and ZANU PF portfolios.

Prisca Mupfumira, or Priscah Mupfumira, is a Zimbabwean politician and former government minister under President Robert Mugabe. When the President was replaced by Emmerson Mnangagwa, she was the first serving ZANU–PF minister to be arrested for corruption.

Obadiah Moyo is a Zimbabwean politician and former hospital administrator. In 2018, he was appointed the country's Minister of Health and Child Care. On 19 June 2020, he was arrested and charged with three counts of criminal abuse of duty as a public officer, for his alleged participation in a scam that involved tens of millions of dollars. After spending the night in police cells, he posted $50,000.00 bail. On 7 July 2020, the President of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa dismissed Moyo from the office of cabinet minister, removing him for "conduct inappropriate for a Government Minister".
