The Ack Ack Handicap was a Grade III race for Thoroughbred horses run at Hollywood Park in June.

Open to horses aged three and up, the Ack Ack was set at a distance of 7+12 furlongs and offered a purse of $100,000. It was raced on dirt since its inaugural running in 2001 until 2007 after the new synthetic Cushion Track had been installed.

The race was named for the great Ack Ack, inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1986 and the Horse of the Year in 1971, as well as ranking number 44 in the Blood-Horse magazine List of the Top 100 U.S. Racehorses of the 20th Century.

This race was run as a stake in 2001.

The Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile is a 1-mile (1.6 km) Weight for Age stakes race for thoroughbred racehorses three years old and up. As its name implies, it is part of the Breeders' Cup World Championships, the de facto year-end championship for North American thoroughbred racing, and is run on a dirt course. Concern was a multi-millionaire American Thoroughbred racehorse. He was sired by top stallion Broad Brush, who in turn was a son of Ack Ack. His dam was Fara's Team. Foaled in Maryland, Concern was best known for his wins in the 1994 Breeders' Cup Classic and the grade two Arkansas Derby. Born at owner Robert Meyerhoff's Fitzhugh Farm in Phoenix, Maryland. To date, Concern is one of only four Maryland-bred horses ever to surpass the three million dollar mark in earnings. The other three were Cigar, Knicks Go and Awad. He finished racing with a record of 7-7-11 in 30 starts and career earnings of $3,079,350.

Dallas Stewart trains a string of thoroughbred horses in Kentucky from bases at Churchill Downs, Turfway Park, Keeneland Race Course, Fair Grounds Race Course, Arlington Park and Saratoga Race Course. Kilijaro was an Irish-bred Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. She was the best filly of her generation in Ireland at both two and three years of age, winning the Phoenix Stakes and finishing second in the Queen Mary Stakes, Cheveley Park Stakes, Prix de l'Abbaye and Prix de la Forêt. When transferred to France in 1980 she proved herself one of the best sprinter-milers of the year, with consecutive wins in the Prix de Meautry, Prix Quincey, Prix du Moulin and Prix de Seine-et-Oise before traveling to California to take the Yellow Ribbon Stakes. She remained in the United Stakes in 1981 and was one of the most successful female turf performers of 1981, winning the San Gorgonio Handicap, Monrovia Handicap, Gamely Handicap, Palomar Handicap, Autumn Days Handicap and Matriarch Stakes. After her retirement from racing she made little impact as a broodmare, but some of her descendants have won good races in Australia.

The 2022 Breeders' Cup Challenge series was a series of horse races that provided the respective winners with an automatic "Win and You're In" berth in the 2022 Breeders' Cup, held on November 4 and 5. Races were chosen by the Breeders' Cup organization and included key races in the various Breeders' Cup divisions from around the world. The Breeders' Cup organization paid the Breeders' Cup entry fee for the challenge race winners, provided they had been nominated as foals. They also provided travel allowances for out of state competitors
