The Adam Binder novels are a series of urban fantasy novels by David R. Slayton. The series consists of three novels, White Trash Warlock (2020), Trailer Park Trickster (2021) and Deadbeat Druid (2022). The novels received critical praise for their depiction of poverty, LGBT issues, and family relationships in the setting of urban fantasy novels.
Adam Binder, a young gay boy living in Guthrie, Oklahoma, lives in poverty with his parents and older brother Robert. His father disappears when Adam is young. As a teenager, Adam begins to hear voices and visit the spirit world. Unwilling to accept the existence of magic, his mother and brother have him institutionalized. In the institution, Liberty House, Adam spirit walks and meets an elf named Perak, who teaches him to control his power. Adam falls in love with Perak, who eventually abandons him. Adam leaves Liberty House on his 18th birthday. He moves in with his grandaunt Sue, also a witch.
Adam investigates dark artifacts made from the bones of magical creatures. These artifacts were created by a warlock, or a witch who has turned to dark magic. He suspects that the warlock is his missing father and learns that one artifact was first found in Denver. Adam receives a call from his estranged brother, now a physician living in Denver, Colorado. Robert's wife Annie has been possessed by an evil spirit, and he begs Adam for help. Adam visits Denver, finding that all of the local witches have been killed by the same spirit that is possessing Annie. While investigating, the spirit takes control of a police officer and tries to kill Adam. An officer named Vic is shot, and Adam saves Vic's life through magic.
Adam beseeches the elves for help. Elves are immensely powerful immortals, but they cannot fight the spirit because it consumes magic. Adam meets the prince and princess of the elves, Silver and Argent, and learns that Perak was an alias for Silver. Vic and Adam begin a romantic relationship. Eventually, Adam discovers a magical tool used to bind the spirit, which has recently been broken.
He learns that Death has orchestrated the release of the spirit as well as Annie's possession. Death is angry that the spirit has evaded her for so long, but the spirit can be killed while it possesses someone. She turns Vic into a Reaper, one of her servants, as a consequence of Adam's intervention in his death. Adam uses dark magic to bind the spirit to Annie's body and then kills her, becoming a warlock in the process. Robert tells Adam that their father is dead; Robert killed him after he saw their father beating Adam as a child. Adam realizes that the other warlock cannot be his father, and vows to discover the warlock's true identity. As the novel ends, Adam is visited by Sue's familiar, heralding that something terrible has happened to her.
Author David Slayton drew on his own experiences while creating the novel. Like Adam, Slayton is originally from Guthrie, Oklahoma, is gay, and is a high school dropout. Later, Slayton received a degree in history from Metropolitan State University of Denver, which allowed him to incorporate his favorite local aspects into the book's setting. [1] Slayton's father was a police officer. Slayton interviewed police officers and researched the Denver police force while creating the character of Vic. [2]
White Trash Warlock, the first book of the series, was released on 13 October 2020. [3] Trailer Park Trickster followed in 2021, [4] and Deadbeat Druid on 18 October 2022. [5]
Kirkus Reviews gave White Trash Warlock a positive review, calling it "stylish urban fantasy with fully realized characters". [3] Publishers Weekly gave the novel a starred review, praising the worldbuilding and depictions of poverty. The review also praised the romance between Adam and Vic, stating that it balanced out the tense tone of the main plot. [6] A review in Portland Book Review called the novel a "must-have book" and praised the complex family dynamics at the heart of the story. [7]
Publishers Weekly wrote a positive review for Trailer Park Trickster, calling it an "emotionally rich page-turner" and praising the interweaving narratives of Adam and Vic. [4]
White Trash Warlock was nominated for the 2021 Colorado Book Award for science fiction or fantasy. [8]
Shannara is a series of high fantasy novels written by Terry Brooks, beginning with The Sword of Shannara in 1977 and concluding with The Last Druid which was released in October 2020; there is also a prequel, First King of Shannara. The series blends magic and primitive technology and is set in the Four Lands, which are identified as Earth long after civilization was destroyed in a chemical and nuclear holocaust called the Great Wars. By the time of the prequel First King of Shannara, the world had reverted to a pre-industrial state and magic had re-emerged to supplement science.

It was first published in hardcover on August 23, 2005, and was released in paperback in September 2006. Eldest has been released in an audiobook format, and as an ebook. Like Eragon, Eldest became a New York Times bestseller. A deluxe edition of Eldest was released on September 26, 2006, including new information and art by both the illustrator and the author. The siblings, each possessing an inherited magic, must save the Four Lands from the evil magic within a tome called the Ildatch.

The Warlock of Firetop Mountain is a single-player adventure gamebook written by Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone, and illustrated by Russ Nicholson. Originally published by Puffin Books in 1982, the title is the first gamebook in the Fighting Fantasy series. It was later republished by Wizard Books in 2002, and Scholastic Books in 2017. As well as launching the Fighting Fantasy series, the gamebook inspired two direct sequels and five novels, and has been adapted into a board game, an audio drama and a video game.
Inverloch is a series of five fantasy graphic novels authored by Sarah Ellerton drawn in a cel-shaded manga style. Inverloch was initially published as a webcomic with new content introduced several pages at a time from 2003 to 2007. Three volumes have seen print with the first three volumes currently available from IndyPlanet and with the first two originally published by Seven Seas Entertainment. Inverloch received several nominations in the 2005, 2006 and 2007 Web Cartoonist's Choice Awards, winning the Outstanding Fantasy Comic category in 2005. During its web publication Inverloch was highly rated at both Topwebcomics and buzzComix online comic rating sites.

The Halfblood Chronicles is a series of four fantasy books written by Andre Norton and Mercedes Lackey. The series is set in a mystical world of elves, wizards and dragons. The series is released by Tor Books, and comprises Elvenbane (1991), Elvenblood (1995), Elvenborn (2002), and Elvenbred. Elvenbred, the fourth book in the series, has not yet been released. Due to the death of co-author Andre Norton it is stated that the series 4th book has been handed over to Mercedes Lackey, and has yet to be published as of December 2022.

The Dragon Prince, known as The Dragon Prince: Mystery of Aaravos from the fourth season onward, is an animated fantasy television series created by Aaron Ehasz and Justin Richmond for Netflix. Produced by Wonderstorm and animated by Bardel Entertainment, the first season premiered on September 14, 2018. The second season premiered on February 15, 2019, and the third on November 22, 2019, concluding the first saga of the series. Following a three-year hiatus, the fourth season premiered on November 3, 2022, and started the series' second saga. The fifth season premiered on July 22, 2023, and the sixth on July 26, 2024. The series has been renewed for a seventh and final season that is set to premiere on December 19, 2024, and will bring the series and its second saga to a conclusion. Three additional seasons as part of a potential third saga are also in early development. The series has earned critical acclaim for its story, themes, vocal performances, animation, and humor for its first three and sixth seasons.
The Sorceress and the Cygnet is a fantasy novel by Patricia A. McKillip. It was first published in hardcover by Ace Books in May 1991, with a paperback edition following from the same publisher in January 1992. The first British edition was published in hardcover and trade paperback by Pan Books in June 1991, with a standard paperback edition following from the same publisher in May 1992.
