Adhi'adeye or Ade Adeeye (Somali: Adhi Cadeeye) is a town in the Sool region of Somalia currently under the control of Khatumo State forces. [2] It is around 30 miles northwest of Las Anod, the regional capital of Sool. [3] [4] [5]

History

In October 2014, the Cilmi Naaleeye branch of the Dhulbahante clan held a clan meeting in Adhi'adeye. [6]

In May 2016, Mustafe Maxamuud Awseed was appointed Sultan of the Fiqi-shini, a segment of the Habr Gedir, in Adhi'adeye. [7] [8]

In December 2020, a quarter century of clan warfare ended in Adhi'adeye. [9]

Adhi'adeye was captured on August 25, 2023, by Khatumo State forces after successfully displacing Somaliland forces from Las Anod. [10] [11]

Demographics

The city of Adhi'adeye is a Dhulbahante town created in the 20th century and was founded by the Naleye Ahmed, a sub-subsection of the Mohamoud Garad branch of the Dhulbahante. The city is primarily inhabited by the Reer Cilmi (Elmi Naleye) sub-clan of the Naleye Ahmed. [12] Other Mohamoud Garad residents of the city include the Jama Siad, mainly the Warsame Ali (Reer Ciye) subsection. [13] There is a segment of the Hawiye, called Fiqishini, who are also present in the city. [14]

Tukaraq is a small village in the eastern Sool region of Somaliland. The town is located on the road between Las Anod and Garowe in Las Anod District. Somaliland has had effective control there since 2018, but Puntland also has a territorial claim.

The Mohamoud Garad is a Somali clan. Its members form a part of the Dhulbahante, a sub-division of the Harti/Darod clan-family. The clan is divided into three main sub-clans ― namely the Jama Siad, the Ugaadhyahan and Omar Wa’eys.

The Farah Garad or the Garad Farah is a Somali clan which is part of the Dhulbahante clan-family, a sub-division of the larger Harti/Darod clan. The Farah Garad are divided into two sub-clans — Yassin Garad and Abdalla Garad. Abdalla has four clan eponyms, Ahmed Garad, Mohamed Garad Baharsame, Guled Garad Barkad and Ali Garad.They are largely significant in Sool and Togdheer regions of Somalia.

Ahmed Abdi Mohamud Sugulle "Habsade" is a Puntland and Somaliland politician. He was a decorated Colonel in the Somali Armed Forces and the second in command of the Somali Custodial Corps equivalent to that of the Italian Arma dei Carabinieri but the Custodial Corps fall under the Ministry of the Interior and are part of the Police Force. A politician and respected elder later in life (he was instrumental in the founding of Somaliland and became the Speaker of the Somaliland House of Representatives. In 1998, he was appointed Minister of the Interior of Puntland but was dismissed in 2007 after a conflict with Mohamud Muse Hersi, who became President of Puntland in 2006. In 2007, he brought Somaliland troops into Las Anod, leading to Somaliland's effective control of the Sool region. He served as various Somaliland Ministers of state from 2008. In 2014, Abdiweli Gaas became President of Puntland and he come back to Puntland.


Guumays (Guumeys) is a village in the Sool region currently under the control of Khatumo State forces.

Tuulo Samakaab or Tuula Samakaab is a village in the Sool Region, currently under the control of Khatumo State forces.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2023 Las Anod conflict</span> 2023 armed conflict in the Horn of Africa

The 2023 Las Anod conflict is an ongoing armed conflict between the Somaliland National Army and the SSC-Khatumo forces of the Dhulbahante in Las Anod, the capital of the Sool region. Fighting erupted on February 6 after Somaliland security forces held a violent crackdown on civil protests. On February 8, the supreme Garad of Dhulbahante, Garad Jama Garad Ali, declared an intent to secede and reunite with the Federal Government of Somalia.
