The Adirondack Lumberjacks were an independent professional baseball team based in Glens Falls, New York. The team moved to Bangor, Maine and became the Bangor Lumberjacks following the 2002 season. The team won the inaugural 1995 Northeast League Championship and the 2000 Northern League Championship.

History

1995

The Lumberjacks along with the Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs, Mohawk Valley Land Sharks, Newburgh Night Hawks, Sullivan Mountain Lions, and the Yonkers Hoot Owls form the Northeast League. In their first season they posted a record of 42 victories and 27 defeats under manager Dave LaPoint and earned a playoff berth via the wild card. In the one game wild card playoff the Jacks defeated the Mohawk Valley Land Sharks 8-3 to move onto the Championship Series against their Northway Rivals, the Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs. [1]

The Lumberjacks first beat the Diamond Dogs, 11-1, and lost at home, 7-5. They won the decisive third match 8-5, to win the inaugural Northeast League Championship. Third baseman Bo Durkac received Most Valuable Player Honors, and was signed to a minor league contract with the new Arizona Diamondbacks franchise in the off season. [2]

The Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs were an independent baseball league team based in Albany, New York from 1995 to 2002. The team played at Heritage Park in Colonie. The Diamond Dogs competed in the Northeast League from 1995–98 and then in the Northern League when the two leagues merged prior to the 1999 season. The Diamond Dogs won the Northern League Championship in 1999. Their mascot was "Homer the Heritage Hound", a dog named for Heritage Park. Due to financial woes and competition from the new Tri-City ValleyCats, the Diamond Dogs folded after the 2002 season.

All players in the league must have NCAA eligibility remaining in order to participate. Players are not paid so as to maintain their college eligibility. Each team plays an eight-week, 48 game schedule from June to August with playoffs in early August.

The 2014–15 AHL season was the 79th season of the American Hockey League. The regular season began in October 2014 and ended in April 2015. The 2015 Calder Cup playoffs followed the conclusion of the regular season.

The Adirondack Jr. Thunder are a junior ice hockey team in the Eastern Hockey League Premier based in Glens Falls, New York. They were established in 2022, and play home games out of the Cool Insuring Arena.
