In September 2020, the Commissioner of Karachi was Mr. Iftikhar Ali Shallwani, an Officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service with the elite rank of BS-21 / Grade 21. [7] [8] [9]

As of December 2020, the Commissioner of Karachi is Mr. Navid Ahmed Shaikh, holding the same elite rank. [12] [13]

It was founded in September 2020 as a movement against the prime minister Imran Khan, accusing his regime of poor governance, political victimisation of opponents, and mismanaging the economy and foreign policy. The struggle was also joined by several dissident members of Khan's own party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). On 10 April 2022, the coalition succeeded to oust Khan through a no-confidence motion, after which the PDM formed its own government, choosing the opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif as the country's prime minister.

It was established on September 23, 2005 at a meeting in Karachi. Mir Shakil ur Rehman, founder of the association, was elected as the first chairman of association.
