Adrian Z. Diaz is an American law enforcement officer serving as the chief of the Seattle Police Department. Diaz had previously served as deputy chief of the department. Diaz earned a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice from Central Washington University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Washington. [7]
Diaz previously worked as a bike patrolman and undercover officer in the Seattle Police Department. He also works as a Master Defensive Tactics instructor at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission. [8]

In October 2009,President Barack Obama appointed her United States Attorney for the Western District of Washington. She held that position until September 2014.
The murder of Timothy Brenton occurred on October 31,2009,in the Central District of Seattle,Washington,United States. Timothy Quinn Brenton,an officer with the Seattle Police Department (SPD),was seated in a parked patrol car with another officer discussing a traffic stop when a gunman stopped his vehicle alongside the patrol car,opened fire on both officers,and fled the scene. Brenton died at the scene and his partner sustained minor injuries. One week later,as a public memorial service for Brenton was being held at KeyArena,the gunman was apprehended and seriously wounded after being shot by police officers in Tukwila.

Carmen Best is an American law enforcement officer who served as the chief of police of the Seattle Police Department from 2018 to 2020. She was the first black woman to lead Seattle's police force. She was chief of police during the George Floyd protests. She announced her resignation in August 2020 following budget cuts,and officially left office on September 2,2020. Best currently serves as Director of Global Security Risk Operations at Microsoft.
Manuel Ellis was a 33-year-old African American man who was killed by police during an arrest on March 3,2020,in Tacoma,Washington. The Pierce County Sheriff's Department initially claimed that Ellis had attacked a police car and officers,leading to the arrest. State prosecutors quoted civilian witnesses as saying that Ellis did not attack the police car or officers;they also said it was the officers who attacked Ellis after a conversation. Video of the incident showed officers repeatedly punching Ellis,choking him,using a Taser,and kneeling on him. State prosecutors stated that "Ellis was not fighting back",citing witness statements and video evidence. A police radio recording showed that Ellis said he "can’t breathe". Ellis told officers "can't breathe,sir" multiple times,according to prosecutors. Ellis was hogtied,face-down,with an officer on him,for at least six minutes,and a spit hood was placed on his head in this position,stated prosecutors. Ellis died at the scene while receiving medical aid from paramedics.
The Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) or Capitol Hill Organized Protest (CHOP),originally Free Capitol Hill and occasionally the Capitol Hill Occupied Protest (CHOP),was an unlawful occupation protest and self-declared autonomous zone in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle,Washington. The zone,originally covering two intersections at the corners of Cal Anderson Park and the roads leading up to them,was established on June 8,2020 by George Floyd protesters after the Seattle Police Department (SPD) left its East Precinct building. The zone was cleared of occupants by police on July 1,2020.

Salisbury was reporting live for Converge to cover Seattle's protest response to the murder of George Floyd,when he captured the "pink umbrella video" that was described as an early flashpoint of the 2020 protests in Seattle.
