Adriano Goldschmied (born 1944, Trieste, Italy) is an Italian fashion designer who focuses on denim jeans. He is known as "the Godfather of denim" [1] and is the originator of "premium denim". [2] The founder of Diesel, [3] he also created Replay, Gap 1969, Agolde, [4] Goldsign, [5] and AG Adriano Goldschmied. [2] [6] Goldschmied is currently the owner of House of Gold, a creative textile company with the purpose of bringing innovative fabrics to the market. [7]

Biography

Goldschmied was born in 1944 in Trieste to an Ashkenazi Jewish family, [8] whose assets were appropriated in 1942. Later, some of these assets were reconveyed to his family. [9]

With initial dreams of becoming a competitive skier, he opened up a store in Cortina d'Ampezzo in 1970. This was a springboard for beginning his own denim company. [10]

Since 1996, he has lived principally in Los Angeles and Milan. [11] His daughter, Marta Goldschmied, has launched her own denim line, MADE GOLD Denim. [12]

The Indigo Move collection has 24 women's styles and 13 men's styles designed by Goldschmied in collaboration with Mavi. Available in all indigo shades, including ink, smoke, and black, the assortment introduces new silhouettes and fits for Mavi.

Founded in 2000 in Los Angeles, California, the company is owned by its co-founder Yul Ku, whose Koos Manufacturing previously produced jeans for several well-known brands. AG Jeans was also co-founded by Italian designer Adriano Goldschmied who left the company in 2004 and sold his share of the business, as well as his namesake brand, to Ku. DSTLD is an American clothing company, founded in 2014 by Corey Epstein, Ryan Jaleh and Mark Lynn and backed by Asher New York Holdings. The California-based company designs and retails a line of mostly denim-based clothing. The company has become known for its relatively affordable pricing, environmentally friendly design and manufacturing, a direct-to-consumer retail strategy.
