Afari is a town between Kumasi and Nkawie in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti Region of Ghana.^[1] The town is the site for the Kumasi Military Hospital.^[2]

It is one of the successful towns in the Atwima Nwabiagya district and currently the leading developing town in the district. It is among the oldest towns in the Ashanti region. The main work of the inhabitants of Afari has been farming and pottery. The royals in the town are said to be the descendants of Oheneba Acheampong Kwasi who was the son of Oti Akenten the first Chief of Kwaman, modern Kumasi before Kumasi became part of the Ashanti Kingdom. The royal family is said to have migrated from Abrenyase, the current Yaa Asantewa Girls Senior High School at Tanoso and settled in Afari. The town has been without a traditional ruler for the past twenty years now when the occupant of the Oheneba Acheampong Kwasi stool expired in the year 2000 leaving the town without effective leadership and this has affected the development of the area. In recent times the town has seen various infrastructural developments making it one of the fastest developing towns in the region. One should however be extremely careful buying parcel of land for development since there is no traditional ruler who is supposed to be the sole person with the capacity to sell stool lands to any third party. Farmers who till the lands have taken advantage of the absence of a traditional ruler and selling their lands to unsuspecting parties which may in long term create confusion especially after the installation of traditional ruler. The people of Afari are said to be friendly and hard working. With the influx of strangers who are building houses and settling in Afari people should be on guard against stealing, break and petty robberies. When the Military Hospital is commissioned Afari will be among the best towns to live in since the proximity to the Regional capital Kumasi is about 30 minutes drive. The traffic situation may affect the traveling time.

Nkawie is a large agrarian and service town and the capital of Atwima Nwabiagya Municipality, a district in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Nkawie is located on the western stretch of the Kumasi Bibiani road and bounded by two other major towns. - Toase and Abuakwa. It is home to prosperous business men in Ghana. There is a government hospital, a fire service station, a secondary technical institution and other government institutions like the courts, education offices, health insurance office, post office and the new immigration offices. The Forestry Commission is the second highest revenue earner in the forestry services in Ghana. The Owabi dam also supplies water to the south of the municipality. The famous Barekese dam also located in the Municipality supplies water to about 75% of Kumasi. Politically, the Town is an electoral bank for the New Patriotic Party. Nkawie is the home town of former Ghanaian president John Kufuor.

Atwima District is a former district that was located in Ashanti Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988. However on 12 November 2003, it was split off into two new districts by a decree of president John Agyekum Kufuor: Atwima Nwabiagya District and Atwima Mponua District. The district assembly was located in the western part of Ashanti Region and had Nkawie as its capital town.

Atwima Mponua District is one of the forty-three districts in Ashanti Region, Ghana, and is the westernmost district in the Ashanti Region. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Atwima District in 1988; until part of the district was split off to create Atwima Mpouna District by a decree of president John Agyekum Kufuor on 12 November 2003 ; while the remaining part has been renamed as Atwima Nwabiagya District. The district assembly is located in the western part of Ashanti Region and has Nyinahin as its capital town.

Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal District is one of the forty-three districts in Ashanti Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988 when it was known as Atwima District. Later, part of the district was split off by a decree of president John Agyekum Kufuor on 12 November 2003 to create Atwima Mponua District; thus the remaining part was renamed to become Atwima Nwabiagya District. However on 15 March 2018, the northern part of the district was later split off to create Atwima Nwabiagya North District; while the remaining part was elevated to municipal district assembly status on the same year to become Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal District. The municipality is located in the western part of Ashanti Region and has Nkawie as its capital town.

Twedie is a town in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. It's located 16 km west of Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital. Twedie is the district capital of the Atwima Kwanwoma District.
