Aftab Akbar Durrani is a BPS-22 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service. He is currently serving as the Secretary Interior. His appointment as Interior Secretary came after the death of his predecessor Abdullah Khan Sumbal. Durrani has also held several key positions within the government.
Prior to Durrani's appointment as Home Secretary,he was serving as Secretary of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Division. [1] [2] [3]
On 18 September 2023,the federal government of Pakistan appointed Aftab Akbar Durrani as the new interior secretary after the death of the acting interior secretary Abdullah Khan Sumbal. [1]

Aftab Ghulam Nabi KaziSPk,SK,also known as AGN Kazi,was a Pakistani civil servant and a bureaucrat during the Cold War and during the post cold war. Kazi was born in Sindh,Bombay Presidency,in 1919 to an academic family. He started his career in the Indian Civil Service in 1944 and served as the Deputy Commissioner of Bihar and Orissa. After the partition of India,Kazi migrated to Pakistan and joined the Provincial Government of Sindh,and held positions such as Secretary of Finance and Secretary to the Governor.
Chaudhry Ali Akbar Khan was a Pakistani politician and diplomat. He was elected as a member of the Punjab Provincial Assembly in British India in 1946. A prominent Pakistan Movement activist,Khan went on to serve in the newly-independent state of Pakistan as the provincial education minister of Punjab from 1953 to 1955 under chief minister Malik Feroz Khan Noon,and as the federal Minister for Home and Kashmir Affairs in the cabinet of president Ayub Khan from 1965 to 1966.

As in-charge of the country's law and order machinery,the Interior Secretary is one of the most coveted and sensitive positions in the Government of Pakistan. The position holder is a BPS-22 grade officer,usually belonging to the Pakistan Administrative Service.
The federal secretary is the highest-ranking position in the Government of Pakistan,occupied by the most senior civil servant in a specific ministry or division. The secretary is the administrative head of that ministry or division and oversees and enforces public policy matters. Grade 22 is the highest attainable rank for a Civil Servant in Pakistan. Grade 22 is equal to a 3-star rank of the Pakistan Armed Forces. With over five hundred thousand civil servants and bureaucrats in Pakistan,only a few dozen officers serve in BPS-22 grade at a given time. Hence,not even 1% of the country's civil servants and/or bureaucrats make it to the highest rank. Officers serving in BPS-22 grade are largely considered to be the most influential individuals in the country.
On 13 July 2018,ahead of Pakistan's general election,two bombings took place at election rallies in Bannu and Mastung.
On 22 July 2018,3 days before general elections,a suicide bomber blew himself near the vehicle of former KPK provincial minister of Agriculture Ikramullah Khan Gandapur in Kulachi,Dera Ismail Khan District,Pakistan. The prime target of attack,Gandapur was brought to Dera Ismail Khan in critical condition where he succumbed to his wounds. Apart from Gandapur,his driver and one of his guards was also killed and three more people were injured. Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the assault describing Gandapur's killing of their colleague militants as the motive. The attack was widely condemned across Pakistan.
Zartaj Gul is a Pakistani politician who served as Minister of State for Climate Change,in Imran Khan ministry from 5 October 2018 until 10 April 2022 when Imran Khan was ousted by a no-confidence motion. She remained a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan between August 2018 and January 2023.
