Aidan James Laprete Powell (born September 6, 2001) is an American singer, songwriter, actor, and record producer. As an actor, he is known for his role as Henry Tanaka in The Wilds.

Early life

Laprete was born on September 6, 2001, in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Laprete first started acting in commercials as a child. Laprete started playing the ukulele at age four, [1] and started to sing at age eight. He started performing at age six in children's groups at local ukulele festivals. [2]

Career

At age eight, Laprete performed the song "Hey Soul Sister" by Train at the 2010 Ukulele Festival. On July 19, 2010, a video of this performance was uploaded by "elrollo79" onto YouTube. [3] The video quickly went viral and has received over twenty million views. [4] The video got the attention of a number of popular artists, among them Jack Johnson and Mick Fleetwood as well as Train's Pat Monahan who is reported to have called it his favorite cover version of the song. [5] Laprete can be seen in Train's music video for their song Mermaid , which was filmed in Honolulu. The video premiered on February 27, 2013. [6]

In 2014, Laprete started releasing music under the artist name Aidan James. He went on a solo tour independently to the east and west coast promoting the music. In Washington, D.C., he performed on the steps of the Capitol Hill and did a private performance at the Google Headquarters. [7]

In 2015, Laprete was featured in HBO's documentary series, Saving My Tomorrow . He was handpicked to write a song for the show, which released on April 22, 2015. [5] He joined the lineup for Train's 2016 Sail Across the Sun cruise, along with Phillip Phillips, Michael Franti, Andy Grammer, and Shaggy. [8]

Laprete's music videos were featured at Good Morning America's Summer Concert Series in Central Park, and an interview with ABC News was released on July 22, 2016. [9] He currently releases and produces music under the name Laprete. [10]

As an actor, Laprete has appeared in a variety of TV shows and films including Chad , Everything's Gonna Be Okay , Alexa and Katie , and Under the Blood Red Sun.

In 2022, Laprete played the role of Henry Tanaka in the second season of the Amazon Prime Video series, The Wilds . Entertainment Weekly praised his performance, calling Laprete a "standout" amongst the ensemble cast. [11]

He was the son of Simon Kaloa Kaʻai, a prominent politician during the Kingdom of Hawaii.

The Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards, occasionally called the Nā Hōkū Awards or Hoku Awards, are the premier music awards in Hawaii. They are considered to be Hawaii's equivalent of the Grammy Awards. "Nā Hōkū Hanohano" means "Stars of Distinction" in Hawaiian – "hōkū" means "star", "nā" makes it plural, and "hanohano" means "glorious, worthy of praises". The awards were founded in 1978 by radio personality Krash Kealoha of KCCN-AM, a radio station which focused on traditional Hawaiian music. He launched the first awards with the support of the owner of the radio station Sydney Grayson, and his fellow DJs Kimo Kahoʻāno and Jacqueline “Skylark” Rossetti.

"Auntie" Irmgard Keali'iwahinealohanohokahaopuamanaFarden Aluli was a Hawaiian composer who wrote over 200 songs. In Hawaii, she was considered a haku mele, or maker of songs. Aluli is considered the most prolific woman composer of Hawaii since Queen Lili'uokalani. She is the fourth person to be honored twice for a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Hawai'i Academy of Recording Arts (HARA). She has also been inducted into the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame.

Honoka & Azita was a ukulele musical duo from Hawaii, United States, and are known for their fast fingers and unique arrangements of popular and original songs. Honoka Katayama and Azita Ganjali were students of Jody Kamisato, and met in the Ukulele Hale studio in Honolulu. In 2013, they entered the local International Ukulele Contest together. They won 1st place in their division, and were named the contest's MVP. After the contest, they opened for the popular music festival in Okinawa, Japan, and regularly performed at the Hard Rock Cafe in Honolulu.

"Live Fast, Die Young" is the third single by American rapper Rick Ross from his fourth studio album Teflon Don (2010). It features Kanye West, who also stood as the sole producer. The song samples three tracks in its composition. A music video was announced by Ross, but never saw an official release.

Danny "Kaniela" Kaleikini was an American singer, musical artist, and entertainer. Best known for his long-term residency at the Kahala Hilton in Hawaii, where he performed for 28 years, Kaleikini is often called "The Ambassador of Aloha". During his career of more than 50 years in show business, he was the opening act for Paul Anka at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, and performed alongside Sammy Davis Jr., Wayne Newton, Dolly Parton, Phyllis McGuire, and Don Ho. A baritone who sang Hawaiian songs and played the nose flute, Kaleikini gained international recognition for promoting Hawaiian music, language, and culture.
