His Name Is Alive is an American experimental rock band/project from Livonia, Michigan. After several self-released cassettes, they debuted on 4AD Records in 1990, starting a long run at the label. Throughout the band's long history, leader Warren Defever has been the only constant member, with a variety of musicians and singers contributing over the years.
Bis are a Scottish indie pop band composed of Steven Clark, John Clark, and Amanda MacKinnon, formed in 1994. The band's name, rhyming with 'this', derives from "black iron skyline", a lyric from the song "Twilight of a Champion" by The The. After releasing numerous cult EPs and three studio albums the band broke up in 2003, but re-formed briefly in 2007 for a series of concerts. In 2009 they once again re-formed and released the album data Panik etcetera in 2014. The album Slight Disconnects was released in February 2019 with the band lineup returning to the original core three-piece. An archival album, Music For Animations, consisting of music recorded in 2004 for CBBC kids TV show BB3B, was released in 2020. In 2021 the band self-released a cassette-only live album entitled The Fan Club Tapes Vol. 1 - Live In Toulouse 1997. Low Level - a CD consisting of previously unreleased material recorded during the Return To Central sessions - was also released in 2021. In October 2022 Systems Music For Home Defence was released, which Sci-Fi Steven has described as the band's "rave" album.
4AD is a British record label owned by Beggars Group. It was founded in London under the name "Axis" by Ivo Watts-Russell and Peter Kent in 1980 as an imprint of Beggars Banquet Records. The name was changed to 4AD after the release of the label's first four singles. Later that year, Watts-Russell and Kent purchased the label from Beggars Banquet to become an independent record label, and Kent sold his share to Watts-Russell a year later.
Unrest was an indie rock band from the Washington, D.C., area. It was one of Mark Robinson's projects for what would eventually become the TeenBeat label, also created by Robinson while in high school. Developing from an experimental approach of never playing the same song twice, earlier material seemed to be influenced by everything from punk to funk to Ennio Morricone. Original members Robinson (guitar) and drummer Philip Krauth were joined by Bridget Cross on bass in 1990 and their sound evolved into a minimalist but lively kind of pop. The two full-length albums released with this line up, 1992's Imperial f.f.r.r. and 1993's Perfect Teeth featured pop songs interspersed with avant-garde percussive and sonic tracks, sometimes featuring nothing but white noise, beeps or sirens. EPs released around the same time period reveal a more pronounced gap between pop and experimental elements. The group broke up in 1994 with Krauth pursuing a solo career and Robinson and Cross continued for a time as Air Miami, which released two singles and one album, me me me. Since Air Miami's demise in the mid '90s, Robinson has continued to release various solo projects, as well as albums with his bands Cotton Candy and Flin Flon, and continues to run the TeenBeat label as well.

He has released a number of solo records. His recordings are typically sparse, often featuring a carefully controlled guitar. He first became a DJ at the student-run radio station WMUC while at the University of Maryland. He lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Oval-Teen was an indie pop band from the town of Yorkville, Illinois. Started in 1994 as a songwriting outlet for Bradley Davis, Chad Lynd and Joseph Chellino. Influenced by the sounds of punk and Teenage Fanclub their early three-chord pop expanded as their playing and songwriting improved and expanded to include new wave and Bubblegum. The band began releasing cassettes and EPs on their own Debris label, and attracted the attention of other self-run small labels around the country and Japan who also released some of their recordings. In 1999, the band recorded their only full-length album, A Million Shades of Oval-teen, for MOC Records but financial problems at the label delayed its release until 2001. The group broke up in 1999 when Bradley Davis relocated to Toronto following his marriage. Posthumous recordings surfaced slowly on Toronto's My Mean Magpie label and a double CD collection of stray tracks was released on Bi-Fi Records in 2004. Brad continues to release records as Lake Holiday (band), Joseph denies any responsibility for records under the names Jonas Crenshaw and Power Craig, Jeremiah keeps busy as a member of Paper Airplane Pilots and generally being tall. Chad lives with his dogs and releases albums with The Bloody Knife Killers, The Tiger Springs and The Sky Lovelies.

Red House Painters were an American rock band formed in Atlanta, Georgia in 1988, before relocating to San Francisco, California. They were one of the most prominent acts associated with the slowcore/sadcore subgenre. The band was formed by primary songwriter Mark Kozelek and drummer Anthony Koutsos. Together, the pair moved to San Francisco, California, where they were joined by bassist Jerry Vessel. Guitarists Gorden Mack and Phil Carney both performed with the band during separate six-year tenures.
Butch Willis is an American musician signed to TeenBeat Records. His recordings were first released on his own private record label, Love Records, in the 1980s and then on TeenBeat Records in the 1990s through to the present. Perfect Teeth is the seventh and final studio album by the Washington, D.C. Indie band Unrest, released on August 9, 1993, by 4AD. The album was recorded at Pachyderm Studios. Unrest initially joked with their management about having Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran to produce the album, which led to him coming into the studio, but not being involved with production.
B.P.M. (1991-1994) is a compilation album by Washington, D.C. Indie band Unrest, released on July 25, 1995, by TeenBeat Records. In comprises tracks recorded by the Bridget Cross/Phil Krauth and Mark Robinson lineup of the band taken from singles, EPs, and soundtrack appearances, as well as previously unreleased material.
Me. Me. Me. is the only album by the American indie rock band Air Miami, released in 1995. It was recorded after the breakup of Unrest, the former band of guitarist Mark Robinson and bassist Bridget Cross.
