Ajay Chhibber

Ajay Chhibber is the first Director General of India's Independent Evaluation Organisation with the status of Minister of State, recently established to assess the effectiveness of India's development programs. From July 2008 to July 2013 for five years he was former United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and Assistant Administrator for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). He did his schooling from St. Paul's School, Darjeeling Chhibber received his training as an economist at Stanford University, USA (PhD, 1983) under a University fellowship and at Delhi School of Economics, India (MA, 1976). He received a BA in Economics from St Stephen's College, Delhi University where he received the David Rajaram Prize for the best all - rounder in 1974.

At UNDP, Chhibber managed the Asia-Pacific programmes [1] covering 39 countries spanning from Iran to the islands in the South Pacific. At UNDP he supervised preparation of seminal Human Development Reports on Women and on Climate Change for the Asia Pacific region. Prior to that, he worked at The World Bank for nearly 25 years on a range of development issues, managing its programmes in Viet Nam, Turkey, Macedonia, Indonesia and the Pacific. He also worked in the research department on public finance and public economics. Chhibber was the lead author of the seminal work on Governance at the World Bank and the 1997 World Development Report on the Role of the State. [2] Chhibber has also worked at the Planning Commission (India) and at the International Food Policy Research Institute. He has also taught economics at Georgetown University and the University of Delhi. Currently, he serves as a visiting scholar at the George Washington University's Institute for International Economic Policy [3]

Chhibber has published widely, including five books on economic development and many articles in international journals and in major newspapers.

He is a Board Member of the Global Partnership to End Violence against Children, Co-Chair of Know in Violence in Childhood, and a member of the Leadership Councils of both the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) and Global Women's Institute, The George Washington University, Washington DC. In addition to serving as a senior policy adviser UNICEF – India (1992-2017), he was a member of India's National Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India, constituted by the Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. The council was set up in June 2004 to oversee the implementation of India's National Common Minimum Programme.

Martha Chen is an American academic, scholar and social worker, who is presently a lecturer in public policy at the Harvard Kennedy School and senior advisor of the global research-policy-action network WIEGO and a member of the Advisory Board of the United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER). Martha is a development practitioner and scholar who has worked with the working poor in India, South Asia, and around the world. Mahendra P. Lama is an Indian professor and a development economist who was the pro-vice chancellor of IGNOU and the founding vice chancellor of Sikkim University in India. At the age of 45, he became the youngest vice chancellor of a National Central University in India. He is presently a senior Professor in the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi; Chief Economic Adviser in the Government of Sikkim and Member of the Eminent Persons Group on Nepal-India Relations appointed by the Prime Ministers of India and Nepal.

Santosh Mehrotra is a human development economist, whose research and writings have had most influence in the areas of labour, employment, skill development, child poverty, and the economics of education. He was an economic adviser in the United Nations system in New York City, Italy, and Thailand (1991–2006), and technocrat in the government of India (2006–2014), apart from making contributions to academic research since the mid-1980s. He has also in recent years established a reputation as an institution-builder in the field of research in India, despite facing difficult odds. He brings a combination of professional experience: with the Indian government as a policy maker and adviser, with international organisations as a technical expert, having lived on three continents and travelled to 63 countries providing technical advice to governments; and as an academic whose research work has been translated into French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and German.

Ajay Bisaria is a former career diplomat in the Indian Foreign Service. He served as the High Commissioner of India to Canada from March 2020 to June 2022. Earlier, he served as High Commissioner of India to Pakistan from December 2017 to February 2020. Prior to joining the diplomatic service, Bisaria worked briefly with the American Express Bank and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited in Delhi.

Praveensingh Pratapsingh Pardeshi is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer with over 29 years of experience in the services, and former Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai. Pardeshi has held various senior leadership positions within the United Nations as the Chief of Transition Recovery unit, UNDP Geneva and Senior Coordinator of United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR). He has subsequently headed the regional offices Support and Co-ordination Unit of UNISDR. Pardeshi has been a key player in post-disaster and conflict recovery programs of UNDP and the public administration, governance reform, wildlife conservation and public health effort against COVID-19 in Maharashtra, India. Kamta Prasad, is an Indian economist, author, and professor with a career spanning over 60 years. He has published over 20 research books and has contributed to over 150 research papers.

Usha Rao-Monari is an Indian investment, development policy, and water resources specialist. Since February 2021, she has served as Under-Secretary-General and Associate Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
