Ajit Singhvi is an Indian-born philanthropist and management consultant based in London. [1] [2] He was best known for endowing professional chairs at IIT Roorkee, IIT Madras, and IIM Mumbai. [3] In 1993, Singhvi, along with Abdullahi Adamu and Ernest Shonekan, gained attention for writing to the Nigerian presidency to advocate for a shift in the country’s economic recovery model. [4]
Singhvi has worked internationally with several multinational companies, serving as Financial Controller at British Insulated Callender's Cables and Managing Director at GEC Alsthom [5] and Leyland Nigeria. He has also held senior roles with the NES Group of Companies, CarnaudMetalbox Engineering, the Aditya Birla Group (President, World Class Manufacturing), and PT Argo Pantes Tbk.
He is an alumnus of Harvard Business School, Manchester Business School, Middlesex University’s School of Engineering, the Japan Institute of Plant Management, Ashridge Management College, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. [6] He also collaborated with Professor David A. Garvin, a professor at Harvard Business School.
Singhvi holds two research degrees: a Doctor of Philosophy and a Doctor of Engineering. [7]
Singhvi has been donating to education and women's empowerment in India, and endowed three professorial chairs at IIT Roorkee, IIT Madras, and IIM Mumbai. Among others, he has donated to the Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA) in Chennai, the Institute of Cost Accountants in Kolkata, and Mohanlal Sukhadia University in Udaipur. [8]
In February 2019, the Loyola Institute of Business Administration named a Micro-Centre for Good Governance after Ajit Singhvi. [9]
He founded the Ajit Singhvi Education and Training Trust and serves as Chairman at the Centre for Enhancing Competitive Abilities and Good Governance. [1]
