Akosua Asaa Manu also known as Kozie is a Ghanaian political activist. She was the former deputy chief executive officer of the Ghana National Youth Authority. [1] [2] Prior to her appointment she was the deputy director of communications at the office of the First Lady of Ghana,Rebecca Akufo-Addo. [3] [4] [5]
Manu had her secondary education at Wesley Girls' Senior High School in Cape Coast. She then gained admission to the University of Ghana,Legon where she pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics which laid a foundation for her in both the financial and public sectors. [3] [4] [5]
After completing her national service,Akosua Manu began her career at Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB),where she worked in systems and back office administration same place she did her national service. [3] [4] In 2012,she ventured into entrepreneurship by starting a small fashion and clothing business. Her early professional experience spans banking,social marketing,and entrepreneurship. [6] [5]
Her corporate and entrepreneurial success opened doors in public service. In 2017,she was appointed as Deputy Director of Communications at the Office of the First Lady,Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo. In this role,Kozie was responsible for managing communications and public relations for the First Lady,coordinating public engagements,and supporting advocacy initiatives - particularly in women’s health and social protection. In recognition of her growing influence and administrative competence,Kozie was appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA),where she formerly was responsible for Finance and Administration. Her role involved youth policy implementation,institutional finance,and strategic planning across Ghana’s youth development agenda. [8] [9]
She is a member of the New Patriotic Party. In 2016,Manu joined the campaign team of the New Patriotic Party working under the social media division. As a result,she was appointed to the office of the First Lady to serve as the deputy Director of Communications in 2017. In that same year,she joined the New Patriotic Party's communication team. [6]
On December 2,2023,Manu,popularly known as Kozie,won the New Patriotic Party's parliamentary primaries and was elected as the candidate for the Adentan constituency to contest on the governing party's ticket in the 2024 general election. She polled 814 votes,closely followed by Kwasi Obeng Fosu the runner-up who got 638 votes. [10] [11] [12] However,despite a strong campaign,she couldn’t unseat the incumbent Mohammed Adamu Ramadan of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 general elections. [13]
