Akramul Qader is a Bangladeshi diplomat and former Ambassador of Bangladesh to the United States. [1] [2] [3] He was the longest serving ambassador of Bangladesh to the United States. [4] He had the rank of a state minister in the government. [5]
Qader completed his M.A. in Islamic History from the University of Dhaka. In the 1960s,he taught in college and would later join the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Office as a section officer. He graduated in 1970 from National Institute of Public Administration,Dhaka,and in 1973 completed a Foreign Service Training Course in Australia. [6]
Qader joined the Bangladeshi Foreign Service in 1972 returning from Pakistan after the Independence of Bangladesh. He was assigned to the USSR in 1974,where he worked till 1976. He was posted in Burma from 1976 to 1981 and Pakistan from 1981 to 1984. From 1984 to 1986 he was the Director of the South East Asia Division in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1996 he served as the ambassador of Bangladesh to Thailand and Cambodia till 1999. [6]
From 1999 to 2002,he was the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to South Africa,and was also cross-accredited as High Commissioner to Botswana,Namibia,Zimbabwe,Swaziland,and Lesotho. He served as the Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. From November 2009 to May 2014 he was the Ambassador of Bangladesh to the United States with responsibility for Mexico and Columbia. [6] [7] [8]
The foreign relations of Bangladesh are Bangladesh's relationships with foreign countries. The Government of Bangladesh's policies pursue a moderate foreign policy that heavily relies on multilateral diplomacy,especially at the United Nations (UN) and the World Trade Organization (WTO). Since its independence in 1971,Bangladesh has stressed its principle of "Friendship towards all,malice towards none" in dictating its diplomacy. As a member of the Non-Aligned Movement,Bangladesh has tended to not take sides with major powers. Since the end of the Cold War,Bangladesh has pursued better relations with its neighbours and other nearby states.
Abul Fateh was a Bangladeshi diplomat,statesman and Sufi who was one of the founding fathers of South Asian diplomacy after the Second World War,having been the founder and inaugural Director of Pakistan's Foreign Service Academy and subsequently becoming Bangladesh's first Foreign Secretary when it gained its independence in 1971. He was Bangladesh's senior-most diplomat both during the 'Liberation War' period of its Mujibnagar administration as well as in peacetime.
Bangladesh-United States relations are the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the United States of America. The two countries signed a bilateral investment treaty in 1986. U.S. companies are the largest foreign investors in Bangladesh. The U.S. government is the leading contributor of humanitarian assistance in response to the Rohingya crisis. Both nations have announced similar views for a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.
Mohamed Mijarul Quayes was a Bangladeshi career diplomat. He was appointed Bangladesh's Ambassador to the Federative Republic of Brazil in 2014 and High Commissioner to the Court of St James's in the United Kingdom from 2012 to 2014. Prior to this,Quayes served as Foreign Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. He was previously the Bangladeshi Ambassador to the Russian Federation and served as High Commissioner to the Maldives prior to his posting to Moscow.
Quazi Golam Dastgir was a Bangladesh army general and diplomat. From 1975 to 1977,he served as the "Zonal Martial Law Administrator" for Dhaka Division.
Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali is the former finance minister of Bangladesh who also served as parliamentarian and cabinet minister including the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh from 2013 to 2019. He previously served as Minister of Disaster Management and Relief from 2012 to 2013.
