Al Kadhimiya is a sports club that is based in the Al Kadhimiya district in Iraq. Its football team currently plays in the Iraqi First Division League, [1] the third tier of Iraqi football. Al-Kadhimiya participated in the Iraqi Premier League on six previous occasions.

The 2012–13 Iraq FA Cup was the 26th edition of the Iraq FA Cup as a club competition, the main domestic cup in Iraqi football. It was the first edition held since the 2002–03 season.

The 2001–02 season, covering the period from 22 September 2001 to 17 May 2002, was Al-Talaba Sport Club's 27th consecutive season in the Iraqi Elite League, top-flight of Iraqi football. Having finished in 4th place in the previous season, Al-Talaba competed in the Iraqi Elite League, the Iraq FA Cup and the Umm al-Ma'arik Championship.

The 2016–17 Iraq FA Cup was the 28th edition of the Iraqi knockout football cup as a club competition, the main domestic cup in Iraqi football. A total of 19 teams from the Iraqi Premier League and 41 teams from the Iraqi First Division League participated. It started on 2 December 2016 and the final was played at Al-Sinaa Stadium in Baghdad on 22 August 2017. It was the second Iraq FA Cup final to be held outside Al-Shaab Stadium, with the first being in 2003.

The 2019–20 Iraq FA Cup was the 30th edition of the Iraqi knockout football cup as a club competition, the main domestic cup in Iraqi football, featuring a total of 20 teams from the Iraqi Premier League and 48 teams from the Iraqi First Division League and Iraqi Second Division League. The tournament started on 12 September 2019, but was cancelled during the Round of 32 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Iraqi First Division League is a football league that is the third tier of the Iraqi football league system. The league consists of 26 teams and was founded in 1974. The number of clubs in the league have varied throughout history for various reasons. The top two teams are promoted directly to the Iraqi Premier Division League, while 10 teams are relegated directly to the Iraqi Second Division League. The league is governed by the Iraq Football Association (IFA), and may be introduced into the top tiers of Iraqi football that are governed by the Iraqi Pro League Association in the future.

The 2021–22 Iraqi Second Division League was the 48th season of what is now called the Iraqi First Division League, the third tier of the Iraqi football league system, since its establishment in 1974. The number of clubs in the league have varied throughout history for various reasons; in this season the number of clubs was 112. The top four teams in the Final Qualifiers were promoted directly to the Iraqi First Division League, while the last eighteen teams in the Qualifiers within the Governorates were relegated directly to the Iraqi Third Division League. The season started on 10 November 2021.

The 2023–24 Iraqi First Division League is the 50th season of the Iraqi First Division League, the third tier in the Iraqi football league system since its establishment in 1974, and the first under its new name. The number of clubs in the league have varied throughout history for various reasons. in this season the number of clubs is 26 divided into three groups, with 10 clubs relegate from the Iraqi First Division League to the Second Division League, and two teams promote to the Premier Division League next season. The teams will be distributed among 3 groups according to the geographical area, competing among them for the promotion of two teams from each group, then the 6 qualifying teams will be divided into two groups that will play among themselves in a home-and-away system, while the mechanism of relegation will be the relegation of 10 teams, with 3 teams from each group, and the tenth relegated team, Its position will be decided by playing a home-and-away match with the sixth-place finishers from the first and second groups. The season is scheduled to start on 29 December 2023.
