Al-Bāţinah was one of the regions (Mintaqat) of Oman. On 28 October 2011, Al-Batinah Region was split into Al Batinah North Governorate and Al Batinah South Governorate.

The 2011 AFC Beach Soccer Championship was a continental beach soccer tournament, which took place from February 27 to March 4, 2011, in Muscat, Oman, seeing the tournament leave Dubai for the first time. Beach Soccer Worldwide and FIFA decided to move the location of the championship to the Al-Musannah Sports City complex in Muscat, due to the success of the 2010 Asian Beach Games held there.

It began on 25 September 2011 and was scheduled to finish on 19 May 2012, but for the first time in the history of Omani League, the league title had to be decided by a playoff. Al-Suwaiq Club were the defending champions, having won the previous 2010–11 Elite League season. On Monday, 21 May 2012, Fanja SC won the Championship Final match against Al-Shabab Club 7–6 on penalties after the match had ended 3–3 after extra time and emerged as the champions of the 2011–12 Oman Elite League.

Wudam Al Sahil is a coastal village located in the Batinah region, today Al Batinah South Governorate of the Sultanate of Oman. Wudam Al Sahil has a rich history of fishing and trade with countries such as India and East Africa. Today Wudam Al Sahil is home to the Said bin Sultan Naval Base, Al Musannah Sports City and The Millennium Resort. The village hosted the 2010 Asian Beach Games.
