Al Jalila Foundation is a charity organization for promoting medical education and research in the United Arab Emirates. [1] It was founded by Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the prime minister of the UAE and the ruler of Dubai in 2013. [2]

Overview

The formation of Al Jalila Foundation was announced on 26 November 2012 by an official decree 23/2012 to form a foundation for the promotion of innovative medical research and medical education in the United Arab Emirates. [2] The activities of the foundation commenced on 1 April 2014 from its office at Building no. 27 of the Dubai Healthcare City, a free economic zone dedicated to the healthcare sector.

Board of Trustees is chaired by Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. [2]

The foundation plans to establish a research centre, Al Jalila Foundation Research Centre within the Dubai Healthcare City in 2016. [3] [4] It has launched a medical research fund, Majlis Al Ata’a, for developing local scientists in association with global and regional scientific institutions. [4]

The foundation organizes career fairs in health services to create awareness among Emarati students about career opportunities in the healthcare sector. [5] [6] It has collaborations with universities in the UAE for selecting deserving candidates for its scholarship schemes. [7] It has also entered into an agreement with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (UAE) for promotion of medical education in the country. [8] The agreement is expected support the six-month training program, Ta'alouf,, launched by the foundation in association with the Zayed University. [8]

Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is an Emirati royal and politician who serves as minister of finance of the United Arab Emirates, deputy ruler of Dubai and chairman of Dubai Media Incorporated. He was named as deputy ruler in February 2008 when his elder brother Hamdan was made crown prince. He served as deputy ruler alongside his uncle Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum until the latter's death in March 2021. Since then until 2023, he was the sole deputy ruler under his father Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's reign. In April 2023, his younger brother Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Maktoum was also named deputy ruler. In September 2021, he was appointed deputy prime minister and finance minister of the UAE.

Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University is the first smart university in the United Arab Emirates, established in 2002. The President of the university is the Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Being the first e-learning institute in the UAE, its working model has paved the way for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR), UAE to design standards for accreditation for an e-learning institution. Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) follows in its delivery of learning a blended learning. These methods may include a mixture of face-to-face classrooms, online classrooms, and self-paced learning.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) was founded on May 19, 2007 by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Sheikh Mohammed stated that the money is meant to bridge the knowledge gap between the Arab region and the developed world, improving the standard of education and research in the region, developing leadership programs for youth, and stimulating job creation.

There are thousands of Jordanians living in the United Arab Emirates. As of 2009, their population was estimated at 250,000, an increase from 80,000 in 2003, making them one of the largest Jordanian diaspora communities both worldwide and in the Persian Gulf region and also form the second largest community of non-citizen Arabs in the UAE after the Egyptians. Most Jordanians live in Dubai and the capital, Abu Dhabi.
