Alan Michael Cohn is an American journalist who was the Democratic nominee in the 2022 U.S. House of Representatives election in Florida's 15th congressional district.
Cohn has two children with his wife, Patricia. Their son, Aaron, is a pitcher in the Oakland A's organization. [2] [3] Cohn graduated from Hofstra University. [4] While at Hofstra, Cohn worked for CBS News in New York. He considers fellow Charles Osgood to be his mentor. [5]
Cohn won the 2020 Democratic nomination for Congress in Florida's 15th congressional district and went on to raise over $2.3 million.[ citation needed ] He was named to the DCCC's "Red to Blue" program and was endorsed by President-Elect Joe Biden[ citation needed ] and former president Barack Obama. [6]
Cohn is the recipient of the 2007 George Foster Peabody Award, one of journalism's highest honors, for uncovering that defective parts were being installed on Black Hawk helicopters built by Stratford-based Sikorsky Aircraft. He was the anchor and managing editor of ABC7 at 7 on WWSB in Sarasota, where he interviewed people including Donald Trump and Jerry Springer. [7] Cohn also worked for WFTS-TV in Tampa ABC. [8] Cohn won the Peabody Award for a multi-year investigation of quality control issues at Sikorsky Aircraft. [9] While at WTNH, Cohn uncovered a scandal involving DMV employees illegally selling driver's licenses, as well as security gaps in Metro North. [5] Cohn has also worked for NBC, New England Cable News (where he won an Emmy Award for uncovering a convicted killer's attempt to become a Boston Police officer), the Boston Globe , WTIC-TV, WGGB-TV, and WAMI-TV in Miami, Florida (where he won an Emmy Award for winning back benefits for a forgotten Vietnam veteran). Cohn ran in the 15th district in the 2020 election. In the Democratic primary election, Cohn defeated state representative Adam Hattersley and U.S. Marine Corps veteran Jesse Philippe, earning 41% of the vote. [10] In the general election, Cohn faced Republican Scott Franklin, a Lakeland city commissioner who had previously defeated incumbent Ross Spano in the Republican primary. Ultimately, Franklin defeated Cohn, 55%-45%. [11]
In the 2022 election, Cohn won the Democratic primary for the newly redrawn 15th district, finishing first out of a five-candidate field with 33.1% of the vote. [12] He went on to lose the general election for this district to Republican nominee Laurel Lee by 17 percentage points. [13]
Ohio's 3rd congressional district is located entirely in Franklin County and includes most of the city of Columbus. The current district lines were drawn in 2022, following the redistricting based on the 2020 census. It is currently represented by Democrat Joyce Beatty.
Ohio's 12th congressional district is a United States congressional district in central Ohio, covering Athens County, Coshocton County, Fairfield County, Guernsey County, Knox County, Licking County, Morgan County, Muskingum County and Perry County along with parts of Delaware, Holmes and Tuscarawas counties. The district includes communities east of Columbus including Zanesville, Cambridge, and Mount Vernon. It is currently represented by Troy Balderson, a member of the Republican Party. Balderson took office following a special election held on August 7, 2018, to replace Rep. Pat Tiberi, who had resigned on January 15, 2018. Balderson was then re-elected in the 2018 general election two months later.
Florida's 10th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of Florida. It was reassigned in 2012, effective January 3, 2013, from the Gulf Coast to inland Central Florida. Before 2017, the district included parts of western Orange County, most of Lake County, as well as a northern section of Polk County. The current district is entirely within Orange County, and covers most of its western portion. It is situated along the Interstate 4 corridor. It includes most of the western half of Orlando. Other cities and towns wholly or partly within the district include Apopka, Belle Isle, Beulah, Eatonville, Harlem Heights, Ocoee, Oak Ridge, Orlo Vista, Winter Garden, and Windermere. In 2020, the district was expanded further north and south to include most of Orlando east of Interstate 4, the Baldwin Park area, Orlando Executive Airport, Winter Park, that portion of Maitland within Orange County, the Azaela Park, Goldenrod, Rio Pinar and Alafaya/Waterford Lakes areas, and continuing east to the University of Central Florida, Naval Support Activity Orlando, the Central Florida Research Park, and the Lake Pickett, Bithlo and Wedgefield areas. Even with this expansion, the 10th remains a minority majority district.
Florida's 8th congressional district is an electoral district for the U.S. Congress and was reassigned in 2012, effective January 2013, from the inland central part of Florida to the central Atlantic coast. The district includes Titusville, Melbourne, Cocoa, and Cape Canaveral, Florida. The district includes all of Brevard County, as well as all of Indian River County and parts of Orange County. The district also includes the Kennedy Space Center.
Florida's 22nd congressional district is a U.S. congressional district in Southeast Florida. In the 2020 redistricting cycle, it was drawn as a successor to the previous 21st district and includes Palm Beach, West Palm Beach, Boynton Beach and Delray Beach, as well as unincorporated Palm Beach County. Pennsylvania is generally considered a swing state that leans slightly left. Throughout its entire history, it voted for the nationwide loser on only 10 occasions, meaning it has voted for the national winner 83% of the time as of 2020. Although, it generally supported Republicans between the Civil War and New Deal eras, as it voted Republican in every election between 1860 and 1932, except for 1912, when the Republican vote was split. Even then, the state's strong Republican ties meant that it backed Republican-turned-Progressive Theodore Roosevelt. The state backed a Democrat in 1936 for the first time since 1856. Pennsylvania generally leaned Democratic since the 1990s, as it backed the Democratic presidential candidate in every election since 1992 except in 2016, when it was won by Republican candidate Donald Trump with a plurality.

Lloyd Kenneth Smucker is an American politician serving as the U.S. representative from Pennsylvania's 11th congressional district, which includes Lancaster County and most of southern York County.
