Albania participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Minsk, Belarus with the song "Barbie" performed by Efi Gjika. The Albanian broadcaster RTSH was responsible for the organization of their representative at the contest. Their entry was selected through Junior Fest 2018, a national selection process consisting of sixteen artists competed in order to become the Albanian representative on 23 September 2018.

Background

Prior to the 2018 contest, Albania had participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest four times since its first entry in 2012, only opting not to participate at the 2013 and 2014 contests. Albania has never won the contest, with their best result being in 2015, with the song "Dambaje" performed by Mishela Rapo, achieving fifth place with a score of 93 points. In 2016, Klesta Qehaja represented Albania in Valletta, Malta with the song "Besoj".^[1] The country ended in 13th place out of 17 countries, achieving 38 points. In 2017, Ana Kodra represented Albania in Tbilisi, Georgia with the song "Don't Touch My Tree" and participated in the 2018 national final but did not win.

The national final Junior Fest 2018 took place on 23 September 2018. It consisted of sixteen competing acts participating in a televised production at Amphitheater of the Lake Park in Tirana.

At Junior Eurovision

During the opening ceremony and the running order draw which both took place on 19 November 2018, Albania was drawn to perform fourth on 25 November 2018, following Kazakhstan and preceding Russia.^[5]

Voting

The same voting system that was introduced in the 2017 edition was used, where the results were determined by 50% online voting and 50% jury voting. Every country had a national jury that consisted of three music industry professionals and two children aged between 10 and 15 who were citizens of the country they represented. The rankings of those jurors were combined to make an overall top ten.^[6]

The online voting consisted of two phases. The first phase of the online voting began on 23 November 2018 when a recap of all the rehearsal performances was shown on the contest's website Junioreurovision.tv before the viewers could vote. After this, voters also had the option to watch longer one-minute clips from each participant's rehearsal. This first round of voting ended on Sunday 25 November at 15:59 CET. The second phase of the online voting took place during the live show and began right after the last performance and was open for 15 minutes. International viewers were able vote for a minimum of three and a maximum of five songs.^[7] They were also able to vote for their own country's song. These votes were then turned into points which were determined by the percentage of votes received. For example, if a song received 10% of the votes, it received 10% of the available points.

The Maltese entrant for the 2018 contest was selected through a national final, organised by the Maltese broadcaster Public Broadcasting Services (PBS) on 8 September 2018. A total of 16 finalists performed original songs for the first time since 2010. Ela Mangion was chosen to represent the island nation with the song "Marchin' On".

Serbia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Minsk, Belarus with the song "Svet" performed by Bojana Radovanović. Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) was responsible for selecting their entry for the contest.

Italy participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 which took place on 25 November 2018 in Minsk, Belarus. The Italian broadcaster Rai Gulp, which is a channel owned by Radiotelevisione Italiana (RAI), was responsible for organising their entry for the contest. Melissa and Marco were internally selected to represent Italy with the song "What Is Love", which finished seventh with 151 points at the event, receiving the top 12 points from the Macedonian jury and a cumulative 57 points through online voting.

Australia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Minsk, Belarus. The Australian broadcaster ABC was responsible for choosing their entry for the contest. Jael was internally selected to represent Australia in Belarus.

Macedonia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 which took place on 25 November 2018 in Minsk, Belarus. Macedonian broadcaster MRT was responsible for organising their entry for the contest. Marija Spasovska was internally selected on 18 August 2018 as the Macedonian representative.

Ukraine participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Minsk, Belarus with the song "Say Love" performed by Darina Krasnovetska. Their entrant was selected through a national selection, organized by the Ukrainian broadcaster UA:PBC.

Albania participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with the song "Mikja ime fëmijëri" written by Saimir Çili and Jorgo Papingji. The song was performed by Isea Çili. The Albanian entry for the 2019 contest in Gliwice, Poland was selected through a national final organised by the Albanian broadcaster Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSH). The national final consisted of eighteen competing acts participating in a televised production where the winner was determined by 100% votes of jury members made up of music professionals. Isea Çili won the Junior Fest 2019 with the song "Mikja ime fëmijëri", on 29 September 2019.

Ukraine participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Gliwice, Poland with the song "The Spirit of Music" performed by Sophia Ivanko. Their entrant was selected through a national selection, organized by the Ukrainian broadcaster UA:PBC.

Serbia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Gliwice, Poland with the song "Podigni glas " performed by Darija Vračević. Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) was responsible for selecting their entry for the contest.

Albania participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Paris, France, with the song "Stand By You" performed by Anna Gjebrea. Its entry was selected through the national selection competition Junior Fest 2021 organised by Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSH) in October 2021. The country returned to the contest after an absence of one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

North Macedonia took part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Paris, France. The national broadcaster, Macedonian Radio Television (MRT), is responsible for the country's participation in the contest. MRT selected four singers from the television show Dajte muzika to represent North Macedonia with the song "Green Forces".

Kazakhstan took part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021. The Kazakh entrant for the 2021 contest in Paris, France was selected through a national selection, organised by the Kazakh broadcaster Khabar Agency (KA). The semi-final took place online between 8 and 12 October 2021, while the final took place on 6 November 2021.

Albania competed in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022, which was held on 11 December 2022 in Yerevan, Armenia. Kejtlin Gjata was selected to represent the country with the song "Pakëz diell" through the national selection competition Junior Fest 2022, organised on 25 October 2022 by Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSH).

Albania competed in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Nice, France. Albanian broadcaster RTSH is responsible for the country's participation, and selected Viola Gjyzeli to represent the country with her song "Bota ime" through the national selection competition Junior Fest 2023.
