Duffy has written and directed several shows with his theater company, Hoi Polloi, including Shadows, All Hands and The less we talk. As a member of the Essentials, Duffy co-wrote the musical comedy Perfect Harmony , [2] wrote an original song for the show and provided musical arrangements. In 2011, he founded JACK, a performing arts space in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, with his wife and Tony Awards winner Mimi Lien, and other co-founders. He performs there regularly with his avant-garde theatre improv band, The Georges. [3] In 2011, Duffy won an Obie Award [4] for his work on Three Pianos.
In 2007, Alec had recorded a song entitled "Every Day is Christmas", which he entered into a competition held by Sufjan Stevens. Alec won the competition, and thus was given the rights to the Sufjan Stevens' song "Lonely Man of Winter", which Alec would play at private listening parties he held in a variety of places all over the world. In 2018, Alec decided to release the Sufjan song he owned, "Lonely Man of Winter", through Sufjan's record label, Asthmatic Kitty Records. The song was released alongside a 2018 recording of the song (entitled "Lonely Man of Winter (Doveman Mix)") which featured Melissa Mary Ahern, and "Every Day is Christmas". All funds raised by the sale of the three songs would go towards Alec's performance venue, JACK. [5]

Songs for Christmas is a box set of five separate EPs of Christmas-related songs and carols recorded by independent musician Sufjan Stevens between 2001 and 2006. The EPs had been given as gifts to friends and family of Stevens over the past six years, except for 2004 when he was too busy recording the Illinois album. Though the first three EPs had already been available on Sufjan Stevens-related fansites for several years, Songs for Christmas is the first official release of these EPs. Most of the tracks are versions of traditional Christmas songs, with a number of original compositions such as "Sister Winter" and "Star of Wonder". Sufjan Stevens has developed a reputation for being a devoted Christian and many of the songs he chose for inclusion on Songs for Christmas are religious in nature, including his original compositions.

American singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens has released thirteen studio albums, three compilation albums, three soundtracks, two mixtapes, thirteen extended plays (EP), twenty singles, eight promotional singles, and eight music videos. Silver & Gold: Songs for Christmas, Vols. 6–10 is a five-EP box set of Christmas-related songs and carols recorded by Sufjan Stevens between 2006 and 2012. It is a follow-up to Songs for Christmas, which was released six years prior. On October 2, 2012, it was announced that Stevens would release Silver & Gold on November 13, 2012 in digital format, CD and LP boxset. On October 24, 2012, a claymation music video, animated by Lee Hardcastle, was released for "Mr. Frosty Man".
Perfect Harmony is an a cappella musical comedy by Andrew Grosso and The Essentials for Perfect Harmony. A cappella vocal arrangements for Perfect Harmony are by Adam Wachter, with additional arrangements by Ray Bailey and Jeremy Gussin. Bailey and Wachter provided arrangements for the Off-Broadway production. The work premiered at the 2006 New York International Fringe Festival where it had an extended run in the Fringe Encore Series before it opened Off-Off Broadway in 2008. Its Off-Broadway introduction came in an October 2010 opening. The licensing agent for the play is the Samuel French Company
