Alen Panov (born February 14, 1978) is a Ukrainian diplomat, lawyer and public figure, professor, and a Head of the International Politics Academic Department, Uzhhorod National University.
Panov was born in Berehove, Ukraine and received a master's degree in law and PhD in history from Uzhhorod National University. [1] [2] [3] He began his career as a school teacher and university assistant lecturer. [1] From 1999 he was the Permanent National Representative (Head of the Mission) to Carpathian Euroregion [4] [5] – the first international regional organization in post-socialist countries in Eastern Europe, united 23 regions from Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine. In 2002, he became deputy mayor of Uzhhorod. [4] From 2006, he was the Ukrainian consul in Hungary, with a residence in Nyíregyháza. [6] [2] [3] During his diplomatic mission, he won the trial about limiting local border traffic opportunities for citizens of Ukraine at the Hungarian Court. Zakarpattia Oblast, also referred to as simply Zakarpattia or Transcarpathia in English, is an oblast in western Ukraine, mostly coterminous with the historical region of Carpathian Ruthenia. Uzhhorod International Airport, is an international airport located in the city of Uzhhorod, in the western Ukrainian province of Zakarpattia. The airport is situated in the westernmost part of the city, in the Chervenytsia district at 145, Sobranetska Street. It is a small airport, serving Uzhhorod and the whole oblast. The airport's runway begins 90 meters from the Ukrainian-Slovak international border, so planes must use Slovak airspace for some take-offs and landings under special treaty.
The modern bilateral relationship between Hungary and Ukraine formally began in the early 1990s, after the end of communism in Hungary in 1989 and Ukrainian independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
