Alessia Rovegno Cayo is a Peruvian beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Peru 2022. Rovegno represented Peru at Miss Universe 2022 and reached the top 16. [1] [2]

Early life and career

She is a member of the Peruvian entertainment Cayo family, that includes her aunt, actress Stephanie Cayo. Her parents are Peruvian actress and singer Barbara Cayo  [ es ] and Lucho Rovegno who owns a bakery located in Lima. She is of Peruvian and Italian descent. [3]

Personal life

As of 12 December 2021, Rovegno is in a relationship with Peruvian athlete Hugo García, because of this she has become known to the media. [4] [5]

Pageantry

Rovegno entered and won Miss Peru 2022 on 14 June 2022, which was broadcast in the reality show Esto es guerra from América Televisión studios in Lima. [6]

As Miss Peru, Rovegno represented the country at Miss Universe 2022 and competed against 84 other candidates at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. She finished as a top 16 semi-finalist. R'Bonney Gabriel of the United States won the pageant. [7] [8] [9] [10]

The presidency of Pedro Castillo began with his inauguration as the president of Peru on 28 July 2021, the Peruvian Independence Day. In the congressional elections, Castillo's party, Free Peru, did not get a majority in the Congress of the Republic of Peru.

Samichay, In Search of Happiness is a 2020 Peruvian black-and-white drama film written and directed by Mauricio Franco Tosso, spoken in Cuzco Quechua and premiered at the Lima Film Festival, about the journey of a peasant quechua with his cow called Samichay in the Andes of Peru. It was awarded at film festivals in Peru, Spain and Chile. The film had its commercial premiere in Peruvian theaters on August 4, 2022.

The 2022–2023 Apurímac protests corresponds to a series of protests and violent confrontations that began on 10 December 2022 in the department of Apurímac in the context of the December 2022 Peruvian protests. The protesters demand the resignation of President Dina Boluarte, the closure of the Congress of the Republic, and new general elections. Unlike the protests in other regions and cities, in Apurímac the confrontations are more violent, and criminal acts have been recorded, such as the kidnapping of police officers and attacks on police stations. The Boluarte government declared a state of emergency, removing some constitutional protections from citizens, including the rights preventing troops from staying within private homes and buildings, freedom of movement, freedom of assembly and "personal freedom and security".
