Alessia Verstappen (born 20 June 2006) is a Belgian rhythmic gymnast. [1] She's the first individual gymnast from her country to attend the World Championships.
Verstappen took up the sport at age 5, after her parents noticed she was a problem eater as a toddler and decided to make her do sport. At first they opted for ballet so Alessia would follow in the footsteps of her great-grandmother, but then she saw rhythmic gymnastics at the Olympics and fell in love. She trains 7 to 8 hours a day and her dream is to compete at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. [2] She speaks Dutch and Russian. [1]
Alessia debuted internationally at the 1st Junior World Championships in Moscow along her teammate Alexandra Safronova, she performed only with rope scoring 12.100 that put her in 41st place. [3]
In May 2022, her first senior year, she became Belgian champion ahead of Carina Iacos and Oona De Decker. [4] [5] A month later she competed in the European Championships in Tel Aviv, where she was 54th in the All-Around, 55th with hoop, 63rd with ball, 44th with clubs and 54th with ribbon. [6] In September she was selected as the sole representative for Belgium for the World Chamionships in Sofia, becoming the first Belgian to compete in such competition, she ended 58th in the All-Around, 52nd with hoop, 65th with ball, 53rd with clubs and 62nd with ribbon. Katsiaryna Aliaksandraŭna Halkina is a retired Belarusian individual rhythmic gymnast. She is the 2018 European all-around bronze medalist. She competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, and finished 6th in the all-around final.
Laura Yihan Zeng is an American former individual rhythmic gymnast. She represented the United States at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics. She swept all of the events at the 2015 Pan American Games and at the 2018 Pan American Championships. She is the 2014 Youth Olympic and 2019 Summer Universiade all-around bronze medalist and the 2019 Grand Prix Final hoop bronze medalist. She is an eight-time national all-around champion, six times at the senior level and twice at the junior level (2013-14).
Linoy Ashram is a retired Israeli individual rhythmic gymnast. She is the 2020 Olympic All-around Champion, the 2018 World All-around silver medalist, two-time World All-around bronze medalist, the 2020 European All-around champion, and the 2019 European Games All-around silver medalist. She is the third Israeli athlete and first Israeli woman to win an Olympic gold medal in any sport, and the first Israeli rhythmic gymnast to win an Olympic medal. She became the first rhythmic gymnast from outside a post-Soviet republic to win a gold medal at an Olympics where former Soviet states participated. Ashram announced her retirement from competitive gymnastics at a press conference in Tel Aviv on 4 April 2022.
Alexandra Ana Maria Agiurgiuculese is a Romanian-Italian individual rhythmic gymnast who represents Italy and was coached by Špela Dragaš. She is a four-time medalist at the 2016 European Junior Championships. At the national level, she is the 2019 Italian National All-around champion, three-time Italian National All-around silver medalist and a three-time Italian Junior National champion, and a bronze medalist with the ball at the 2018 World Championships. She competed at the 2020 Olympic Games.
Nicol Zelikman is a former Israeli individual rhythmic gymnast. She is a two-time medalist at the 2016 European Junior Championships.
Milena Baldassarri is an Italian individual rhythmic gymnast. She won the silver medal at the World Championship at the 2018 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships. She competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics, in Individual all around.
Evita Griskenas is an American individual rhythmic gymnast. She is the 2022 USA national all-around champion. She represented the United States at the 2020 Summer Olympics and finished twelfth in the qualification round for the individual all-around. She was the most decorated athlete at the 2019 Pan American Games where she won four gold medals and one bronze medal. She swept the gold medals at the 2017 Pan American Championships. She is a four-time national all-around silver medalist, and the 2015 junior national all-around champion.
Sofia Raffaeli is an Italian individual rhythmic gymnast. She is the 2022 All-around, hoop, ball, ribbon and team World Champion, as well as the 2022 European Hoop and Clubs champion. On Junior Level, she is the 2019 Junior World Silver medalist with Rope and Clubs. Moreover, Sofia is the first Italian individual rhythmic gymnast to medal and win a gold medal at the World Championships, European Championships, at the World Games, and also to win three All-around gold medals in the FIG World Cup circuit.
Viktoriia Maksimivna Onopriienko is a Ukrainian individual rhythmic gymnast. She competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, finishing tenth all-around. She is the 2018 European junior team silver medalist.
