History
Dejazmach Balcha Safo, Governor of Sidamo, originally constructed his ketema, or fortified camp, in Wendo, but he later moved it to Hagere Selam. [2] While passing through the area in February 1909, Dr. Drake Brockman notes that the governor of Western Sidamo, Dejazmach Tessema Nadew, made this town (which he calls "Alata") his headquarters. [3] American naturalists arrived at Wendo village on 29 December 1926, and camped outside the village for a while. Grazmach Kebede Dihala Mikael, the village potentate, implored them to camp near his house, explaining that there were plenty of shiftas or outlaws in the area. [2]
Wendo was occupied by the Italian Laghi Division on 30 November 1936. It was retaken by the 1st Gold Coast Regiment on 22 May 1941, without a single shot fired. The Allied forces accepted the surrender of a Brigadier General and some 3,000 prisoners. [2]
By 1958, Wendo was one of 27 places in Ethiopia ranked as a First Class Township. Telephone service reached the town within the next 10 years. [2]
Yirgalem locally known as Diko Dalle alternate names include Yirgalem, Abosto, Dalle) is a town in southern Ethiopia. Surrounded by Lakes Woyima and Gidawo, it is located 260 kilometers south of Addis Ababa and 40 kilometers south of Awasa in the Sidama Zone of the Sidama Region. The town has a latitude and longitude of 6°45′N38°25′E and an elevation of 1776 meters. It is the largest settlement in Dale woreda.
Maji is a town in south western Ethiopia. Korem is a town and separate woreda in Amhara, Ethiopia. Korem is located in the endoreic basin of the Afar Triangle. The streams near Korem do not reach the ocean. Lake Hashenge is located six kilometers to the north of Korem. Aleta Wendo is bordered on the south by Dara, on the west by Chuko, on the north by Dale and Wensho, on the east by Bursa, and on the southeast by Hula. The administrative center is Aleta Wendo. Chuko woreda was separated from Aleta Wendo.

The major town in Hula is Hagere Selam. Woredas of Bursa and Bona Zuria were separated from Hula.
Adda Berga is a woreda in Oromia Region, Ethiopia. Part of the West Shewa Zone, Adda Berga is bordered on the south by Walmara, on the southwest by Ejerie, on the west by Meta Robi, and on the north and east by the Muger River which separates it from the north Shewa Zone. Liben is one of the woredas in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. Part of the East Borana Zone, Liben is bordered on the south by the Dawa River which separates it from the Borena Zone, on the west by Odo Shakiso, on the northwest by Adolana Wadera, on the north by the Ganale Dorya River which separates it from the Bale Zone, and on the east by the Somali Region. The map of the Oromia Region published by Disaster Prevention and Disaster Agency shows that this woreda is part of the Guji Zone, and that the eastern part has been transferred to the Somali Region to create the Liben woreda of that region. The town of Negele Boran was separated from Liben woreda and is separate woreda now.

The Ganale Doria River is a perennial river in southeastern Ethiopia. Rising in the mountains east of Aleta Wendo, the Ganale flows south and east to join with the Dawa at the border with Somalia to become the Jubba. The river's tributaries include the Welmel, Weyib, Dumale, Doya, Hawas and the Hambala. The Del Verme Falls is a notable feature of its middle course.
