Alexandra Depledge MBE is a British technology entrepreneur, known best for being the founder and CEO of Resi, and as the founder and former CEO of Helpling, formerly known as Hassle.com. [1] In 2016 she was awarded an MBE for services to the sharing economy. [2]

Early life and education

Alex Depledge was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire. [3] She graduated from the University of Nottingham with a History and American Studies degree in 2003, then moved to the US and obtained a master's degree in International Relations at the University of Chicago. [4] [5] [6]

Career

In 2005, Depledge returned to the UK and started her career in 2006 as a consultant for Accenture in the UK, [5] [4] she finally left Accenture in 2012 to start her own venture. [7]

Hassle.com

In 2012, Depledge and Jules Coleman co-founded Hassle.com, a London-based online platform for domestic cleaners. The business raised $6 million from Venture firm, Accel Partners, the first backers of Facebook & Spotify to scale across Europe. The company was acquired by a German company, Helpling, in 2015. Resi

In 2017, Depledge and Coleman started a new venture, Resi "formerly known as BuildPath", an online architectural platform helping UK homeowners renovate and extend their homes. [2] [8] [11]

Depledge was also the chair and director of The Coalition for a Digital Economy (Coadec) in the period from 2015 to 2017 founder of the government-backed Sharing Economy UK trade body, SEUK. [12] [13] Depledge currently sits on the board of the London Economic Action Partnership (LEAP) chaired by the Mayor of London. [11] She is a regular TV & radio commentator and co-presented BBC3 program “Girls Can Code” part of its Thinking Digital season 2015. [14]

Awards and honours

Depledge was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2016 Birthday Honours for services to the economy and has been recognised with a number of awards for her work as an entrepreneur:

Zoe Cunningham is a British business executive and competitive backgammon player. Cunningham serves as the Managing Director of Softwire. She is an advocate for women in technology related businesses, and a contributor to business columns in UK periodicals. In 2010 she became the Ladies World Backgammon Champion.

Skimlinks is a content monetization platform for online publishers. It specializes in technology that automatically affiliates product links from publishers' commerce content.

Helpling is a Vauxhall, London-based online booking and payment platform that connects customers with pre-vetted local cleaners. In July 2015, the on-demand cleaning marketplace Helpling bought Hassle.com. In June 2014, The Times listed Hassle.com as one of the top ten disruptive digital startups.

Judith Caroline Clegg is a British strategy consultant, technology entrepreneur, and author. She is the founder and CEO of Takeout, a strategy consultancy based in London and New York City, and founder of The Glasshouse, a support network for tech entrepreneurs and investors. She was named one of the Fifty Most Influential Britons in Technology by The Daily Telegraph in 2009, and one of the Fifty Most Inspiring Women in European Tech by the Inspiring Fifty organisation in 2015. Judith co-created two initiatives that launched in the House of Commons: PAWS – The Policy for Animal Welfare Scheme and The #HANDSOFF Campaign.

Alice Bentinck British entrepreneur (born 1986)

Alice Yvonne Bentinck is a British entrepreneur. Along with Matthew Clifford, she is the co-founder of Entrepreneur First, a London-based company builder and startup accelerator. Based in London and Singapore, EF funds ambitious individuals based across Europe and Asia to create startups. In 2017, it was announced that Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn and Partner at Greylock, was leading a $12.4million investment into Entrepreneur First.

Kathryn Parsons British tech entrepreneur

Kathryn Parsons is a British tech entrepreneur. She is the co-founder and co-CEO of Decoded, a London-based tech startup which aims to increase digital literacy. Decoded's signature one-day course claims to train participants without any background in computers to "code in a day". The company is now a global brand hosting technology masterclasses in 85 cities across the world reaching 250,000 people face-to-face, as well as hundreds of thousands more online.

Sophie Deen Childrens author and coding educator

Sophie Deen is a British children's author and leader in the field of coding and STEM for young people. She is the CEO of Bright Little Labs, a kids media company that makes animations, books, games and toys with a focus on 21st century skills, inclusive role models, and sustainability.

Carrie Anne Philbin Director of Educator Support at the Raspberry Pi Foundation

Carrie Anne Philbin is an English teacher of computer science and an author. She is a director of educator support at the Raspberry Pi Foundation and chairs the Computing At School (CAS) diversity and inclusion group, #CASInclude. She wrote the computing book Adventures in Raspberry Pi (2013) for teenagers. She runs the YouTube channel Geek Gurl Diaries and in 2017, was the host for Crash Course Computer Science.

Jennifer Arcuri American technology entrepreneur

Jennifer Marie Arcuri is an American technology entrepreneur. She lived in London from 2011 to 2018, before moving back to California. Self-described as an "ethical hacker", she founded the white hat consultancy Hacker House in 2016 and organised the Innotech Network from 2012. Her connection to then Mayor of London Boris Johnson from 2012 came to national attention in the UK in September 2019 when he became Prime Minister, triggering investigations into alleged conflicts of interest. She said in 2021 that she had an affair with him from 2012 to 2016.
