Alex Karbouris, known professionally as Alex K, is an Australian music producer, singer, songwriter and DJ. He is known for being one of the pioneers of the music genre 'NRG', [1] [2] and his Ultimate NRG and Kickin Hard compilations. [3] He has sold over 600,000 albums worldwide, [4] and has remixed and written for over 200 artists across the globe. [5] Karbouris is one of Australia's highest selling hard dance exports. [6]

Biography

1996–2004: Early life and career

Originally beginning his career in 1994 at community radio station 99.3FM, he joined Australian radio station, Wild FM, and was responsible for numerous megamixes that featured on the Wild CD compilations. He signed with Central Station Records in 1998, and released the first of many compilations titled Kickin Hard, under the alias 'Alex K'. [7]

2004–2011: Ultimate NRG

Karbouris moved from his hometown Sydney, Australia to Liverpool, UK in 2004, and signed a record deal with Universal/AATW. [8] Despite the 'NRG' scene being viewed in the wider industry as a regional phenomena, largely assumed to be confined to the North West, Ultimate NRG 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and Ultimate NRG Megamix all achieved gold status in the UK, with over 600,000 sales. [9] Karbouris has had several chart hits with his productions, including "If you were mine", "Rise Again", and "Moving too fast". He has written and worked with many writers and producers, and had writing credits alongside Annie Lennox with his track "Angel in my heart".

His song "My Time", was featured and looped in the freeway chase scene of the movie Hancock in 2008.

He has remixed numerous mainstream and underground artists, including the Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna, Snoop Dogg, Lady Gaga, Nicole Scherzinger, Slinkee Minx and David Guetta. [10]

Personal life

His grandfather was Lee Gallagher, who formed the GTV-9 Showband and featured on the Graham Kennedy Show. [11] His auntie is Greek actress Marilena Karbouri, most known from the series Xehase Me. [12] Karbouris currently resides in Sydney, Australia, but tours Europe frequently. [13]

Antony de Vit was an English DJ and music producer. He is considered one of the most influential of his generation. He was credited with helping to take the "hard house" and fast "hard NRG" sounds out of the London and Birmingham gay scene into mainstream clubs. His single "Burning Up" reached number 25 on the UK Singles Chart in March 1995, with "To the Limit" making number 44 in September 1995. During that year, he won BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix of the Year Award, as voted by listeners of the show, and Music Week's re-mix of Year Award for Louise's "Naked". He remixed several UK top 40 hits during his career with artists such as Taylor Dayne and East 17. Between 1994 and 1998 his popularity with the clubbing public was rivaled by only Paul Oakenfold and Carl Cox. In September 2010, Mixmag UK announced the nominations of 35 DJs chosen by other big names in the world of dance music as those they considered the best DJs ever. Seekae was an Australian Sydney-based electronic music group. They formed the group under the name Commander Keen in reference to the early-'90s MS-DOS video game series, later changing the name to an elongated version of Commander Keen's initials (CK) after realising the name was taken by a Scottish band. They released their debut album The Sound of Trees Falling on People in 2008 and released the follow-up +Dome in 2011 and the EP 3 in 2012. The band released their third album The Worry in September 2014. The group parted ways in 2016, following a final show supporting The Jesus and Mary Chain.

Hixxy, or DJ Hixxy, is a British disc jockey and electronic music producer known for his innovative work in the UK happy hardcore scene, co-founding the Raver Baby record label, and the Bonkers compilation album series.
