Alex Wise (born 17 August 2000) is a British archer competing in recurve events. He was selected to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics. [1]

Early life

Born in Newcastle, [2] he joined the Bowmen of Walker club in Newcastle in 2015 after first trying archery whilst on holiday in Turkey. He graduated with a Sport Development degree from Northumbria University. [3]

Career

As a 16-year-old he was selected at junior level for the 2017 European Archery Championships in France. [4] That year, he made his senior debut and competed at the World Archery Youth Championships. In 2018, he won the recurve junior men’s competition at the third stage of the 2017/18 Indoor Archery World Cup in Nîmes, France. [5] In June 2018, alongside Tom Hall and Patrick Huston he won the bronze medal in a team event at the second World Cup of the season in Antalya, Turkey. [6]

He was part of the British Archery team that earned qualification for 2020 Tokyo Olympics and traveled to the games as a non-playing reserve. [7]

He won a silver medal at the 2022 Archery World Cup in Turkey, in the recurve mixed team final alongside Bryony Pitman. [8]

In June 2024, alongside Conor Hall and Tom Hall, he won gold in the recurve men’s team division at the Veronica's Cup in Slovenia. [9] That month, the trio also secured qualification for the team event at the 2024 Olympic Games by finishing third at the final qualifying event in Antalya. [10] In July 2024, he was officially named in the British team for the 2024 Paris Olympics., alongside teammates Conor Hall and Tom Hall. [11] [12] In the individual, he was knocked out in the round of 32. [13] In the team round they were knocked out by the Chinese Taipei team, in the first round. [14]

Taylor Worth is an Australian archer competing in recurve events. He won a gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the men's team event, a gold medal at the United States Open and at the 2008 World Youth Archery Championships in the under-18 men's team recurve event. Worth represented Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Men's Individual competition, and at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio won a bronze medal alongside Alec Potts and Ryan Tyack in the men's team archery. He represented Australia at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Amy Oliver is an archer from Great Britain. A competitor at the 2012 Summer Olympics, she won a silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, a bronze medal at the 2011 World Archery Championships, and was the women's individual recurve champion at the World Field Archery Championships in 2016. Oliver announced her retirement from the British national archery team in 2017.

Patrick Huston is a British two-time Olympian archer from Belfast, Northern Ireland. He captured three world championship titles under the youth level, and eventually competed as a member of the two person archery squad of Team GB at the 2016 Summer Olympics, in Rio, losing the first round match to the eventual champion Ku Bon-chan of South Korea. In the Tokyo 2020 Olympics his best result was a men's team 5th. Huston currently lives near Lilleshall National Sporting Centre and trained full-time under senior national coach Richard Priestman for Archery UK, while remaining a loyal founding member of East Belfast Archery Club. Mete Gazoz is a Turkish recurve archer. He won the gold medal in the men's individual event at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan. He also represented Turkey at the 2016 Summer Olympics held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In the 2023 World Archery Championships held in Berlin, Mete Gazoz emerged victorious, claiming the prestigious Individual title. In an intense final, he triumphed over the skilled Canadian archer Eric Peters, securing his place as the first Turkish archer to achieve the esteemed recurve gold medal in a World Championship.

Ankita Bhakat is an Indian recurve archer from West Bengal, who is currently ranked world number 20 by the World Archery Federation. She is a member of the Indian national recurve team and competes in international events in the women's individual, women's team and the mixed team recurve categories. She competed in the 2017 World Archery Youth Championships held at Rosario, Argentina, and won the gold medal in the recurve junior mixed team event with partner Jemson Singh Ningthoujam.

Bryony Michaela Pitman is a British archer competing in women's recurve events. She won the gold medal in the women's recurve team event at the 2019 European Games held in Minsk, Belarus. Earlier in 2019, she won the bronze medal in the women's team recurve event at the World Archery Championships held in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.

James Woodgate is a British archer competing in men's recurve events. He competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Bhajan Kaur is an Indian archer from Haryana. She was selected for the Indian Archery team for the recurve events at the 2022 Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China. Along with Ankita Bhakat and Simranjeet Kaur, she won the Women's team recurve event bronze medal for India. The Indian trio defeated the Vietnamese team 6–2 in the bronze-medal play-off. On 16 June 2024, she won a gold in the final Olympic qualifier at Anatalya, Turkey. She represented India at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games at Paris.

Dhiraj Bommadevara is an Indian recurve archer. He finished fourth in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Bommadevara is a gold, silver, and multiple bronze medalist at the World Cup. He also won a silver medal at the Asian Games and a gold medal at the World Youth Championships.
