Alex van Warmerdam (born 14 August 1952) is a Dutch screenwriter, film director, and actor. He is also a painter.
Van Warmerdam was born in Haarlem, a city in the province of North Holland in the Netherlands. He was cofounder of the theatre group Hauser Orkater (which later became the musictheatre group Orkater). In 1980, he founded the theatre group De Mexicaanse Hond (The Mexican Dog), together with his brother Marc van Warmerdam. This is the name under which all the shows since 1989 have been released.
He made his first feature film in 1986: Abel. He plays a role in each of his films so far, with the exception of Grimm (2003).
Alex van Warmerdam is married to Dutch actress Annet Malherbe, who plays parts in most of his films and also functions as a casting director. Their son Mees is a musician and has performed in various shows by theatre group De Mexicaanse Hond.
He won the Nederlands-Vlaamse Toneelschrijfprijs in 1990 and the Taalunie Toneelschrijfprijs in 2011.
His 2013 film Borgman was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. [1]

Cinema of the Netherlands refers to the film industry based in the Netherlands. Because the Dutch film industry is relatively small, and there is little or no international market for Dutch films, almost all films rely on state funding. This funding can be achieved through several sources, for instance through the Netherlands Film Fund or the public broadcast networks. In recent years the Dutch Government has established several tax shelters for private investments in Dutch films.
Jack Wouterse is a Dutch actor. His career as a movie actor took off with his role in the 1992 film The Northerners, directed by Alex van Warmerdam. Wouterse made his international debut in an episode of the TV series Band of Brothers. He frequently worked with murdered Dutch director Theo van Gogh.

It was screened in the Vanguard section at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. The film was selected as the Dutch entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards, but it was not nominated.

The Toneelschrijfprijs is an annual literary award awarded to the playwrights of a Dutch-language play that debuted in the preceding season. The award ceremony is held in either Flanders or the Netherlands. The winner of the prize receives €10,000. The prize was first awarded in 1988 as the Nederlands-Vlaamse Toneelschrijfprijs.

After having been associated with the cooperative association Het Werkteater for many years, she worked for the theater companies De Mexican Hond and Orkater and played mainly in new plays by homegrown, sometimes written for her.
Nr. 10 is a 2021 Dutch-Belgian thriller film by Alex van Warmerdam. The film had its national theatrical release on 30 September 2021, on the closing night of the Netherlands Film Festival. That same evening, the film was scheduled to premiere in another one-hundred cinemas across the Netherlands.
