Sacha Polak (born 1982) is a Dutch film director.
In 2012 Polak's feature film debut Hemel played at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival. Additionally her short Brother and her step-mother Meral Uslu's film on which she was a script supervisor, all played at the festival as well. [1]
In 2014 Polak was initially going to direct the film Vita & Virginia about the love-affair between Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West but was she replaced by Chanya Button. [2]
In 2015 Polak's second film Zurich played at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival. [3]
Polak's next feature film was the movie Dirty God about a woman who sustained facial burns after an acid attack by her ex-partner. [4] This film won her the Golden Calf award for best direction at the 2019 Netherlands Film Festival. [5] The lead actress in the film, Vicky Knight, won a BAFTA Breakthrough Brits award for new talent at the 2019 British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards. [6]
Polak's mother died of breast cancer 11 months after she was born. [7]
Director Meral Uslu is her step-mother.

The first five films to be screened in the competition were announced on 19 December 2011. American actress Meryl Streep was presented with the Honorary Golden Bear on 14 February. Benoît Jacquot's film Les adieux à la reine was announced as the opening film. The Golden Bear for Best Film went to the Italian film Caesar Must Die, directed by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, which also served as closing night film.

Dirty God is a 2019 internationally co-produced drama film, directed and co-written by Sacha Polak. The film marks the English language debut by Polak, and also marks the feature film debut of actress Vicky Knight. Actress Vicky Knight was chosen to play the lead role from auditions of burn survivors. It was selected to be screened in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition section at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival on 26 January 2019. The film also won three Golden Calves for best film, best director (Polak) and best music.

Chanya Joyce Dorothy Button is an English director and screenwriter. After studying at RADA and learning the ropes in the assistant directors' department on the Harry Potter franchise, she directed two feature films, Burn Burn Burn (2015) and Vita & Virginia (2018), the latter of which she also co-wrote. She then moved on to television, directing the 2019 period dramas World on Fire and The Spanish Princess, as well as an episode of Doctor Who, set to air in November 2023.

The film follows 23-year-old Franky, a nurse who, obsessed with a thirst for revenge and a need to assign guilt for a traumatic event that happened 15 years before, is unable to build any meaningful relationship until she falls in love with one of her patients – Florence.
