Alexander Virgili (Naples) is an Italian political scientist, analyst [1] [2] and disaster management expert. [3] [4] He is currently serving as Secretary General of the Corpo Italiano di San Lazzaro, Deputy Executive Director of the Centro Studi Internazionali and member of the Advisory Board of the Lazarus Union. [5]

Biography

Virgili grew up in Naples, Italy, graduating from the University of Naples Federico II in political science and international relations. He later obtained a Master in Space Institutions and Policies at SIOI, in collaboration with the Italian Space Agency, and specializations in ceremonies and protocol.

Virgili served in the National Board of the Corpo Italiano di San Lazzaro since 2016, [6] and President of the UNYA of Italy between 2019 and 2021. [7] [8] Virgili is a member of SGAC project group for Space Тechnology for Disaster Management. In 2021 Virgili co-founded the Naples Hub of the Global Shapers, initiative of the World Economic Forum. [9]

For nearly a decade active in the civil protection field he started his career in the voluntary component of Regione Campania and in the Military Corps of the Italian Red Cross.

Virgili participated at the European Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction 2018 held in Rome on invitation of the United Nations. [10] Virgili opened the plenary session "Every life counts: inclusive and equality based DRR strategies” with a keynote speech. Virgili was also interviewed by UNISDR to share his experience on the field. [11] Virgili participated at the TEDx Marcianise with a speech about perception for disaster risk reduction. [12] Invited by Mami Mizutori, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction and Head of UNDRR, Virgili participated as speaker in the virtual high-level panel, broadcast from the UN headquarters in New York, entitled "Leveraging the Power of Science and Technology to Reduce Tsunami Risk for Current and Future Generations" on the occasion of World Tsunami Awareness Day 2021. [13]

From 2016 Virgili organizes in Italy the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (GIRD – Giornata Internazionale per la Riduzione dei Disastri) for the Corpo Italiano di San Lazzaro. [14]

Due to his education, Virgili is an expert in disaster management with the support of space technologies. [15]

He is the scientific director of the Italian Institute of Social Sciences, president of the Centro Studi Internazionali, president of Corpo Italiano di San Lazzaro, and vice president of the Lazarus Union. In 2019, he was appointed by the High Council of the Judiciary and the Ministry of Justice as an Honorary Judge at Youth Courts. He has authored numerous articles, essays, and books, and is a scholar of esotericism and heraldic and symbology studies. He is also the second duke of Castelvenere. He inherited the title from his father: Fernando Virgili the first duke of Castelvenere.

The Regiment "Lancieri di Firenze" (9th) is an inactive cavalry unit of the Tuscan Army, French Army, Sardinian Army, and Italian Army. Formed in Tuscany in 1753 the regiment served in the Napoleonic Wars, during which its troops reached Madrid and Moscow. In 1848—49 the regiment fought in the First Italian War of Independence. During the Second Italian War of Independence the regiment switched allegiance from the Grand Duchy of Tuscany to the Kingdom of Sardinia and thus became the only regiment from a pre-unification state to be integrated into the Royal Sardinian Army. The regiment participated in the Third Italian War of Independence and during World War I it fought dismounted in the trenches of the Italian front. In World War II the regiment was assigned to the 2nd Cavalry Division "Emanuele Filiberto Testa di Ferro" and served in annexed Albania, occupied Greece, and occupied Yugoslavia on anti-partisan duty. The regiment was disbanded after the announcement of the Armistice of Cassibile by invading German forces. During the Cold War the unit was assigned to the Armored Brigade "Vittorio Veneto" as a tank unit. After the Cold War the regiment was disbanded in 1995.
