Alexandra (Alex) Armstrong is the chairwoman and founder of Armstrong, Fleming, & Moore. Armstrong was the first person to earn the Certified Financial Planner certification in Washington, D.C. [1]

Born and raised in the Washington, D.C., area. Alexandra Armstrong's father died when she was 8 years old. She attended Stone Ridge School in her early years, and went to Newton College of the Sacred Heart for her undergraduate degree. [2]
Armstrong began her financial services career with stock brokerage firm Ferris & Company as a secretary to Julia Walsh, the first Washington woman to be successful in the brokerage business. [3] In 1977, Walsh left Ferris & Company to start her own firm, and Armstrong made the transition along with her. When Walsh exited and sold her firm several years later, Armstrong started her own financial planning firm and broker-dealer in 1983. [2]
In 1993, she co-authored On Your Own: A Widow's Passage to Emotional and Financial Well-Being with Mary Donahue, now in its 5th edition. [4] The book is currently being updated and the sixth edition will release around January 2024. Both Armstrong and Donahue teamed up again in their most recent book, YOUR NEXT CHAPTER: A Woman’s Guide To A Successful Retirement, to help women navigate successfully through another major life transition. In addition to her work in her businesses, Armstrong served for seven years on the national board (1980–1987) for the International Association of Financial Planners, [1] one of the predecessor organizations to the Financial Planning Association. Armstrong was also the first female president and chairwoman of the organization. [6]
Armstrong is a founding member and ongoing board member for the Foundation for Financial Planning in 2000, and was a chairwoman of the non-profit organization as well. [7]
In addition to her work in financial planning, Armstrong is active outside the financial services industry. A past president of the Boy Scouts of America, National Capital Area Council (its first and only female president) of the Boy Scouts of America, she continues to serve on its advisory board. She served on the national board of Reading Is Fundamental (past treasurer) for over 20 years. She is a past president and current member of the Women’s Forum of Washington DC, which is part of an international organization of preeminent women in their respective fields. She is a member of the Cosmos Club (past chair investment committee). She also serves as the Vice President of the Boys and Girls Club of Sarasota and Desoto counties Foundation Board. [8]
Armstrong has also served on the Board of Visitors of Georgetown University School of Business Administration, and was president of the National Association of Women Business Owners, Washington, D.C., and also the International Women's Forum of Washington, DC. [1] For the past 40 years, Alexandra Armstrong has also coauthored a monthly column for the National Association of Investment Clubs magazine. She also writes a quarterly column on Retirement Planning for Women for the Journal of Financial Planning which goes to all Financial Planning Association members.
In 1985, Armstrong received the Award of Excellence in Commerce from Boston College Alumni Association. In 1994, she received the Alumni of the year award from Stone Ridge, her alma mater.[ citation needed ]
In 2004, Armstrong was the first woman to receive the P. Kemp Fain, Jr. award from the Financial Planning Association. [9]

She previously served as the senior advisor to U.S. President Barack Obama and assistant to the president for public engagement and intergovernmental affairs from 2009 to 2017. Maria Contreras-Sweet is an American businesswoman and former government official who served as the 24th Administrator of the Small Business Administration from 2014 to 2017. She was the executive chairwoman and founder of ProAmérica Bank, a commercial bank focusing on small to mid-sized businesses with a specialty in the Latino community. Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, Contreras-Sweet immigrated to Los Angeles, California and has since been involved in both the private sector founding a private equity firm and in public service as the California Secretary of Business, Transportation, and Housing under Governor Gray Davis.

Dave Yeske is an American financial planner, researcher, and educator. He is particularly known for his research and writing in the areas of Policy-Based Financial Planning and Strategy-Making by financial planners. Yeske is co-founder and a managing director of Yeske Buie, a wealth management firm; a past national president of the Financial Planning Association; and currently holds an appointment as Distinguished Adjunct Professor in Golden Gate University's Ageno School of Business where he served as director of the school's financial planning degree program from 2014 to 2023.
Gerda Hasselfeldt is a German politician of the Christian Social Union (CSU) who served as deputy chairperson of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group and chairwoman of the Bundestag group of CSU parliamentarians. The Union Trust Building is a nine-story office building, located at 740 15th Street, Northwest, Washington, D.C. It was constructed for the Union Trust Company between 1906 and 1907. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is a contributing property to the Financial Historic District. It sits on the location of Wormley's Hotel, owned by James Wormley, a free-born black man, where the Wormley Agreement was penned, which led to the Compromise of 1877 and the election of President Rutherford B. Hayes. It has been substantially expanded twice, first in 1927 and then converted to a modern office building in 1983.

Chilton was a California businessperson who was the first woman to chair a statewide chamber of commerce when she became the chairwoman of the California Chamber of Commerce in 1982 and later served as California's Secretary of State and Consumer Services, serving under Governor George Deukmejian from 1983 to 1991. On June 30, 2013, she died in Agoura Hills, California after a long illness.

Melissa Bell is an American journalist and technologist. She helped launch the Indian business newspaper Mint, and held several positions at The Washington Post, starting in 2010. She and Ezra Klein left the newspaper to co-found the news and opinion website Vox with Matthew Yglesias in 2014. Bell was named vice president of growth and analytics for Vox Media in 2015, and has been the company's publisher since 2016.
