Atanas Hristov Mihaylov was an association football former forward and manager. Mihаylov is the top scorer in the history of the Bulgaria U21 team, managing 31 goals in 46 appearances. He played 45 games for the Bulgaria national football team, scored 23 goals, and won a silver medal at the 1968 Summer Olympics; he also played at the 1974 World Cup. The team is part of the Nea Salamina Famagusta sports club, which was founded in 1948; the parent club also fields a men's football team which temporarily based in Larnaka.

The 2015–16 Cypriot First Division was the 77th season of the Cypriot top-level football league. It began on 22 August 2015 and ended on 15 May 2016. APOEL were the defending champions.

The Famagusta derby refers to the Famagusta's local derby, football matches played between Anorthosis Famagusta and Nea Salamis Famagusta. It is one of the rivalries of Cypriot football. The rivalry is also indicative of social, cultural and political differences.

The 2017–18 Cypriot Cup was the 76th edition of the Cypriot Cup. A total of 22 clubs were accepted to enter the competition. It began on 29 November 2019 with the first round and concluded on 16 May 2018 with the final held at GSP Stadium. The winner of the Cup was AEK Larnaca for second time and qualified for the 2018–19 Europa League second qualifying round.

The 2022–23 Cypriot First Division was the 84th season of the Cypriot top-level football league.
