Alfredo Horacio Olmedo (born 5 December 1965) is an Argentinian entrepreneur and politician, who served as a National Deputy representing Salta Province, in two terms, 2009 to 2013 and again in 2015 to 2019. He was a candidate for Governor of Salta and also for President of Argentina, but he was never elected. [1] He was born in Rosario de la Frontera into a wealthy family. He is associated with conservative groups in Argentina, defending positions against abortion, same-sex marriage and supporting military interventions. [2]

Juan Manuel Urtubey is an Argentine politician, lawyer, university professor and former governor of Salta Province. Formerly a senior figure in the ruling Front for Victory faction of the Justicialist Party (PJ) in the Argentine Chamber of Deputies and chairman of both the Constitutional Affairs Committee and the Peronist Caucus, Urtubey became governor in the 2007 elections, being only 38 years old. He was reelected in 2011 with almost 60% of the vote, and in 2015 with 51% of the vote.

Salta Basin or Salta Rift Basin is a sedimentary basin located in the Argentine Northwest. The basin started to accumulate sediments in the Early Cretaceous (Neocomian) and at present it has sedimentary deposits reaching thicknesses of 5,000 metres (16,000 ft). The basin contains seven sub-basins: Tres Cruces, Lomas de Olmedo, Metán, Alemanía, Salfity, El Rey, Sey and Brealito. The basin environment has variously been described as a "foreland rift" and an "intra-continental rift". The basin developed under conditions of extensional tectonics and rift-associated volcanism.
