Ali Bozan (born 1978, in Adiyaman, Turkey) is a lawyer and politician. He is a former politician of the Democratic Society Party (DTP) and since June 2023, a member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey representing the Green Left Party (YSP).
Ali Bozan was born in Adiyaman in 1978 and moved with his family to Mersin in 1984. [1] He attended primary school and high school in Mersin. [1] Following he studied law at the Dokuz Eylül University in Izmir. [1]
Ali Bozan became a member of the Mersin Bar association [1] and his defendants include journalists of the newspaper Evrensel [2] or Aysel Tugluk, a politician of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) whom he represents in the Kobani trial. [3]
In 2006 he became the head of the Mersin branch of the DTP. [1] The same year, he was charged with terrorist propaganda for having attended a funeral of militants of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and deemed the Turkish police officers who kill children terrorists. [4] In 2006 he was arrested for two months and later released pending trial. [1] As a result of the closure case of the DTP that concluded in 2009, Bozan was banned from political office for five years. [5] Bozan eventually began to serve his prison sentence due to the terror related charge of 2006 in 2010. [4] He was released in 2012. [1]
Ali Bozan eventually appealed to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), which in 2020 ruled that there was a violation article 10 of the European convention of Human Rights regarding freedom of speech and Turkey was condemned to pay a penalty of 6'€500 to Bozan. [4] In October 2017 he was arrested for a few days together with other layers from the Mersin Bar Association. [6] He was investigated for terror related charges over the possession of a book about Kurds in Rojava by Fehim Tastekin. [7] In the parliamentary elections of May 2023, Ali Bozan was elected to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey representing the YSP for Mersin. [8]
Leyla Zana is a Kurdish politician. She was imprisoned for ten years for her political activism, which was deemed by the Turkish courts to be against the unity of the country. She was awarded the 1995 Sakharov Prize by the European Parliament but was unable to collect it until her release in 2004. She was also awarded the Rafto Prize in 1994 after being recognized by the Rafto Foundation for being incarcerated for her peaceful struggle for the human rights of the Kurdish people in Turkey and the neighbouring countries.
The Democratic Society Party was a Kurdish nationalist political party in Turkey. The party considered itself social-democratic and had observer status in the Socialist International. It was considered to be the successor of the Democratic People's Party (DEHAP). The party was established in 2005 and succeeded in getting elected more than ninety mayors in the municipal elections of 2009. On 11 December 2009, the Constitutional Court of Turkey banned the DTP, ruling that the party has become "focal point of activities against the indivisible unity of the state, the country and the nation". The ban has been widely criticized both by groups within Turkey and by several international organizations. The party was succeeded by the Peace and Democracy Party.

On 11 February 2018, she was elected co-leader of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in the party's 3rd ordinary congress.
Ayla Akat Ata is a Kurdish–Turkish jurist and former member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey of the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP). She is a women's rights activist and the co-founder of the Free Women's Congress (KJA). Gökkan was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment on grounds that she was a leader and a member of a terror organization in October 2021.

The Kurdish Political Movement or the Kurdish Liberation Movement, refers to the movement that seeks to realize the political demands of Kurdish people living in the geocultural region called Kurdistan in the lands of Turkey, Iraq, Syria and Iran, such as education in their native language, self-determination, autonomy or an independent state. In the context of Turkey, this movement is being pursued by democratic means through left-wing ethnic political parties, as well as through PKK affiliated militant groups.
