Ali Mohammad Besharati (born 1945) is a senior Iranian politician who served as deputy foreign minister and also,interior minister.
Besharati was born in Jahrom in 1945. [1] [2] He studied medicine. However,he holds a bachelor's degree in education. [1] During the reign of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi,when he was a medical student,he was detained and jailed for five years. [3]
Following the 1979 revolution,Besharati was elected as a deputy to the Iranian parliament where he represented Jahrom,Fars province,between 1980 and 1984. [4] He was among the founders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and headed its intelligence unit. [4] He served as the first deputy foreign minister for ten years. [3] [5] He was deputy to Ali Akbar Velayati. [6] Besharati also served as an advisor to former President Hashemi Rafsanjani. [7]
Besharati was the interior minister from 16 August 1993 to 2 August 1997 in the cabinet of Hashemi Rafsanjani. [4] [8] Besharati succeeded Abdollah Nouri as interior minister. [9] [10] Besharati's major task was to organize the election process. It was he who appointed Mahmoud Ahmedinejad as governor. [3]
Then Besharati worked in the Strategic Studies Center. [2] As of 2012 he was serving as the political advisor to the Head of the Expediency Discernment Council. [11]
Ali Akbar Hashimi Bahramani Rafsanjani was an Iranian politician and writer who served as the fourth president of Iran from 1989 to 1997. One of the founding fathers of the Islamic Republic,Rafsanjani was the head of the Assembly of Experts from 2007 until 2011 when he decided not to nominate himself for the post. He was also the chairman of the Expediency Discernment Council.
Seyed Mohammad-Ali Abtahi is an Iranian theologian,scholar,pro-democracy activist and chairman of the Institute for Interreligious Dialogue. The Expediency Discernment Council of the System is an administrative assembly of Iran appointed by the Supreme Leader and was created upon the revision to the Constitution on 6 February 1988. It was originally set up to resolve differences or conflicts between the Majlis and the Guardian Council,but "its true power lies more in its advisory role to the Supreme Leader." According to Hooman Majd,the Leader "delegated some of his own authority to the council—granting it supervisory powers over all branches of the government" following President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's election in 2005.
Ali Ardeshir Larijani is an Iranian moderate politician,philosopher and former military officer in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps,who served as the Speaker of the Parliament of Iran from 2008 to 2020. He has been a member of the Expediency Discernment Council since 2020,having previously served from 1997 to 2008. Larijani is a candidate for president of Iran in the 2024 presidential election. He previously ran in 2005,but was disqualified from running in 2021.

Velayati is a distinguished professor at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences,senior adviser to the Supreme Leader in international affairs and head of the board of founders and the board of trustees of the Islamic Azad University.

Mohsen Hashemi Rafsanjani is an Iranian politician,academic and engineer who served as a member and was chairman of the City Council of Tehran from 2017 to 2021. He was the deputy director of Iran's Islamic Azad University from 2013 until 2017 and chairman and CEO of Tehran Metro for 13 years. He was the main reformist member candidate for the fourth period of the Tehran city council in 2013 as Tehran Mayor,but lost to Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. In 2017,he was elected as a city councilor and later was elected as chairman of the council.
Hassan Rouhani,a moderate Iranian politician and former Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council,also known as the Diplomat Sheikh,launched his presidential campaign in March 2013. He was earlier expected to withdraw and endorse Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani after he registered,but he returned to the race after Hashemi's disqualification. The symbol of Rouhani's campaign was a key and his slogan was "Government of Prudence and Hope." On 15 June,he was elected as the president with 18,613,329 votes.
Ali Tayebnia is an Iranian academic,economist and President Pezeshkian's supreme advisor since 2024. He was designated by President Hassan Rouhani for the position of finance minister on 4 August 2013 and was confirmed by the parliament on 15 August. He left the office on 20 August 2017.
On 8 January 2017,Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani,the fourth President of Iran and the country's Chairman of Expediency Discernment Council,died at the age of 82 after suffering a heart attack. He was transferred unconscious to a hospital in Tajrish,north Tehran. Attempts at cardiopulmonary resuscitation for more than an hour trying to revive him were unsuccessful and he died at 19:30 local time (UTC+3:30).
