She began her new position on May 28, 2018, after being an anchor of ABC's television newsmagazine 20/20 and ABC News specials for the previous 14 years. In 2006–2007, millions of people participated in protests over a proposed change to U.S. immigration policy. These large scale mobilizations are widely seen as a historic turn point in Latino politics, especially Latino immigrant civic participation and political influence, as noted in a range of scholarly publications in this field. The protests began in response to proposed legislation known as H.R. 4437, which would raise penalties for illegal immigration and classify illegal individuals and anyone who helped them enter or remain in the US as felons. Jose Antonio Vargas is a journalist, filmmaker, and immigration rights activist. Born in the Philippines and raised in the United States from the age of twelve, he was part of The Washington Post team that won the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Reporting in 2008 for coverage of the Virginia Tech shooting online and in print. Vargas has also worked for the San Francisco Chronicle, the Philadelphia Daily News, and The Huffington Post. He wrote, produced, and directed the autobiographical 2013 film Documented, which CNN Films broadcast in June 2014.
Alicia Jacobsen Menendez is an American television commentator, host, and writer. She is the author of the book The Likeability Trap: How to Break Free and Succeed as You Are (2019), and an anchor for MSNBC. Since 2020, she has hosted American Voices on Saturdays and Sundays on MSNBC. She is also a contributing editor at Bustle and host of its Latina to Latina podcast. Formerly, she was a correspondent on the PBS show Amanpour & Company and the host of Come Here and Say That on Fusion. Prior to that she was a host and producer at HuffPost Live. She is the daughter of United States Senator Robert Menendez.
Ruchi Sanghvi is an Indian computer engineer and businesswoman. She was the first female engineer hired by Facebook. In late 2010, she quit Facebook and in 2011, she started her own company Cove, with two other co-founders. The company was sold to Dropbox in 2012 and Sanghvi joined Dropbox as VP of Operations. The 2016 presidential campaign of Lawrence Lessig, a law professor at Harvard University and cofounder of Creative Commons, was formally announced on September 6, 2015, as Lessig confirmed his intentions to run for the Democratic Party's nomination for President of the United States in 2016. Lessig had promised to run if his exploratory committee raised $1 million by Labor Day, which it accomplished one day early. Her previous political roles include Political Director for the organization Our Revolution, Press Secretary for Latino Outreach in Bernie Sanders’ 2016 campaign, and Congressional staffer for then-Representative Kyrsten Sinema. Much of Andiola's work has been driven by her own journey as an undocumented Mexican female immigrant.
