Alina Kornelli (born May 12, 2000) is a German and Austrian Formula Kite competitor. She has been a sailor and a snowboarder.

Life

Kornelli was born in Munich in 2000 with dual Austian/German nationality. Her supportive parents are Sabine, an Austrian from Sankt Georgen an der Gusen and her father was a German windsurfer named Dietmar "Didi" Kornelli. [1] [2] [3] Her elder brother Julian Kornelli  [ de ] became an ice hockey player in Germany.

She was also active as a snowboarder in the Bavarian snowboard squad. In 2015 she became the German youth champion in the snowboard cross competition and later the Bavarian champion twice. She gave up snowboarding in 2017 - said she preferred water to snow because the water was better to fall on. [1]

Germany

Kornelli has been kiteboarding since she was eleven years old. In 2017 she became vice- European champion in slalom at the European Championships in Gizzeria , Italy . [1] At the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics she competed for Germany in the IKA Twin Tip Racing discipline and finished fourth. [1] In 2019 she was living in Reichersbeurer. she won the overall slalom at the Kitesurf Masters and became German champion, [4] [1] and she won bronze in freestyle and surprised herself with another in Formula Kite racing. [1] [4]

Austria

In 2021 she changed her allegiance to the Austrian Sailing Association, In 2023 she became a member of the Kammersee Sailing Club with her sailing based on Lake Attersee. [2] [3] In September 2023 she finished sixth at the European Championships off Portsmouth in England. [5] At the Olympic Last Chance Regatta at the end of April 2024 off Hyères in France she qualified to take part in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. [6] The last five places were awarded at the Last Chance Regatta to the Swiss surfer Elena Lengwiler, Julia Damasiewicz of Poland, the Turkish Derin Atakan, Mafalda Pires de Lima of Portugal and Kornelli. [7]

In the World Championship in Hyère her sailing was at times competitive, but inconsistency gave her a position of 17th. [2] Kornelli was chosen as the 2024 Austrian Olympic competitor. [8]

Sailing/Yachting is an Olympic sport starting from the Games of the 1st Olympiad. With the exception of 1904 and possibly the cancelled 1916 Summer Olympics, sailing has always been included on the Olympic schedule. Lauriane Nolot is a French professional surfer. She has been the world champion at Formula Kite.

Daniela Moroz is an American sailor who became the World champion at Formula Kite six times between 2016 and 2022.

Jessie Kampman is a French Formula Kite surfer. She has won silver medals at the European championships and in 2024 she won a world bronze medal.

Elena Kalinina is a Russian World champion at Formula Kite where competitors use kites to propel small hydrofoils. Kalinina first became a World Champion in 2014 when she was seventeen.

Julia Damasiewicz is a Polish formula kitesurfer. She was the European champion in 2020.

Benyapa "Fawn" Jantawan is a real estate agent and an Olympic kite foiler from Thailand. She was the silver medallist at the 19th Asian Games in 2023.

Annelous Lammerts is a Dutch Formula Kite competitor and designated Olympian. She won the 2022 Hempel World Cup Allianz Regatta and the silver medal at the 2023 Formula Kite European Championships.

Gal Zukerman is an Israeli kite foiler. She won the Youth Sailing World Championships in 2022 and she qualified for the 2024 Olympics.

(María) Catalina "Cata" Turienzo is an Argentina Argentine kitesurfer who took silver at the 2023 Pan American Games and a place in the 2024 Olympic Games. She was the 2024 Formula Kite Youth World Champion.

Emily Claire Bugeja is a Canadian kitefoiler who was sixth in the Pan American Games in 2023. She was nominated to compete for Canada at the 2024 Olympics.

Elena Lengwiler born Elena Bosshard is a Swiss Ice Hockey player and a nominated kitefoiler for the 24 Olympics. She was fourth in the 2024 European championships and she represents Switzerland in Formula Kite at the 2024 Olympics.

Mafalda Pires de Lima is a Portuguese kitefoiler. She has been sailing since the age of ten and when it was agreed that Formula Kite was to be an Olympic sport then she began to enjoy the difficult sport. She was Portugal's first woman kitesurfing champion.

Ariane Imbert is a kite foiler who was the French champion five times and on two occasions she was nearly the World champion. She became the French National Coach.
