Julia Damasiewicz (born 22 October 2004) is a Polish formula kitesurfer. She was the European champion in 2020.

Life

Damasiewicz was born in 2004. [1]

When she was sixteen she became the European Champion in 2020 in formula kite racing. The race was in at Puck in Poland and she drew ahead of the British kitesufer Ellie Aldridge in the final race. The winners wore COVID-19 facemasks on the Polish podium. [2] In the following year Damasiewicz was the under-19 champion of the world. [3]

Damasiewicz was first supported by Ozone Kites. [1] She was the runner-up in the 2021 Youth Sailing World Championships at Mussanah in Oman. The champion was Gal Zukerman of Israel [4] and because of political differences it was reported that nobody's national anthem was played and the results were not published for a few days. [5]

In 2022 she won the KiteFoil World Series at Traunsee in Austria. Ellie Aldridge took the silver medal and the American Daniela Moroz was third. It was a three-day competition but lack of wind meant that nearly all but one of the races took place on the final afternoon in light thermal winds on a freshwater lake in thirty degree temperatures. [6] In the same year she went to The Hague in the Netherlands to compete in the World Youth Games. She won the event beating the French kitesufer Héloïse Pégourié [7] and the Turkish kitefoiler Derin Atakan who came third. [8]

In November 2023 Damasiewicz was in Shenzhen in China taking part in the Formula Kite Asia & Oceania Championships. She took third place overall and she was the highest placed surfer who was under 21 years old. The championship was won by Jingyue Chen and Chen's fellow Chinese kitesurfer, Wan Li, took silver. [9]

The last five of the 20 places for women kitefoilers at the Olympics were awarded at the Last Chance Regatta in April 2024 to the Austrian Surfer Alina Kornelli, the Swiss surfer Elena Lengwiler, the Turkish Derin Atakan, Mafalda Pires de Lima of Portugal and Damasiewicz. [10]

In 2024 she finished seventh at the Formula Kite Worlds at Hyères in France. She was the highest placed woman under 21 at the event. [11]

Eleanor Aldridge is a British sailor from Dorset who competes in women's kite foiling. She won the 2023 Formula Kite European Championships and took the silver that year in the World Championships. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Aldridge won a gold medal in the women's Formula Kite event.

Lauriane Nolot is a French professional kitesurfer. She is a two-time world champion in Formula Kite, winning in both 2023 and 2024. Nolot won a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics in the inaugural women's Formula Kite event.

Daniela Moroz is an American sailor who became the World champion at Formula Kite six times between 2016 and 2022.

Jessie Kampman is a French Formula Kite surfer. She has won silver medals at the European championships and in 2024 she won a world bronze medal.

Stephanie "Steph" Bridge is a British kitesurfer who became the World Formula Kite champion five times between 2009 and 2016. She is the leading figure in the "Team Bridge" family.

Katie Dabson is a British sailor in the catamaran Nacra 17 and the hydrofoil Formula Kite. She became World champion with Ben Saxton in 2017 at the Nacra 17 World Championship and then went on to compete at Formula Kite.

Elena Kalinina is a Russian World champion at Formula Kite where competitors use kites to propel small hydrofoils. Kalinina first became a World Champion in 2014 when she was seventeen.

Jingyue Chen is a Chinese Formula Kite professional athlete who became the Asian, and the Asia & Oceania, champion in 2023.

Annelous Lammerts is a Dutch Formula Kite competitor and designated Olympian. She won the 2022 Hempel World Cup Allianz Regatta and the silver medal at the 2023 Formula Kite European Championships. Lammerts won a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics in the inaugural women's Formula Kite event.

Leonie Meyer is a German sailor, medical student and prospective Olympic kitesurfer.

Maggie Eillen Pescetto is an Italian Formula Kite sailor who took the silver position at the Kite Open Africa and Middle East Championship in 2022. She was nominated for Olympic competition at formula kite in 2024.

Gal Zukerman is an Israeli kite foiler. She won the Youth Sailing World Championships in 2022. Zukerman competed for Israel at the 2024 Paris Olympics in the Women's Formula Kite in Marseille, France, and came in eighth.

(María) Catalina "Cata" Turienzo is an Argentine kitesurfer who took silver at the 2023 Pan American Games and a place in the 2024 Olympic Games. She was the 2024 Formula Kite Youth World Champion.

Alina Kornelli is a German and Austrian Formula Kite competitor. She has been a sailor and a snowboarder.

Elena Lengwiler born Elena Bosshard is a Swiss Ice Hockey player and a nominated kitefoiler for the 24 Olympics. She was fourth in the 2024 European championships and she represents Switzerland in Formula Kite at the 2024 Olympics.

Mafalda Pires de Lima is a Portuguese kitefoiler. She has been sailing since the age of ten and when it was agreed that Formula Kite was to be an Olympic sport then she began to enjoy the difficult sport. She was Portugal's first woman kitesurfing champion.
