Alina Stremous (born 11 July 1995) [1] is a Russian-born Moldovan biathlete who competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics. She won the 10 km pursuit event at the 2022 IBU Open European Championships.
Stremous was born in Kotelnikovo, Russia. She studied at State Budgetary Secondary School No. 3, Saint Petersburg. [2]
Stremous started skiing in cross-country skiing in Volgograd, Russia, and later moved to Saint Petersburg. [2] In 2017, she started competing for the St. Petersburg Biathlon Sports Federation. [2] She made her international debut in the 2019–20 Biathlon IBU Cup event in Minsk, Belarus. [2] In April 2020, Stremous started competing for Moldova, as she had been unable to make the Russian reserve team. [3] She had not competed internationally for Russia, [4] and so did not need permission from the Russian Biathlon Union to make the nationality change. [5] She was one of a number of Russian-born athletes who chose to represent Moldova. [6]
Stremous came fourth in the 2020–21 Biathlon IBU Cup event in Arber, Germany. [7] At the 2022 IBU Open European Championships, she won the 10 km pursuit event, [8] [9] by 18 seconds. She had four penalties in the competition. [10] At the same Championships, she came second in the 15 km individual event, [11] [12] and fourth in the 7.5 km sprint race. [4]
Stremous qualified for the 2022 Winter Olympics; she was one of four Moldovan biathletes at the Games. [10] [11] She came 10th in the women's sprint event and 16th in the pursuit race. [13] She missed two of her 10 targets in the pursuit race. [14] She also finished 37th in the 15km individual event, [15] and was the country's flag bearer at the closing ceremony. [16]
The biathlon is a winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. It is treated as a race, with contestants skiing through a cross-country trail whose distance is divided into shooting rounds. The shooting rounds are not timed per se, but depending on the competition, missed shots result in extra distance or time being added to the contestant's total.
Sergei Vladimirovich Tchepikov is a Russian politician and a former Soviet-Russian biathlete and cross-country skier who competed at six Winter Olympics, five in biathlon and one in cross-country skiing (1998). His last Olympic performance was a silver medal in the 4 × 7.5 km relay at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin.

Andrea Henkel started out as a cross-country skier but later specialised in biathlon when women's biathlon became an Olympic sport.
Magdalena "Lena" Neuner is a retired German professional biathlete. She is the most successful woman of all time at Biathlon World Championships and a two-time Olympic gold medalist. At the age of 21, she became the youngest Overall World Cup winner in the history of the International Biathlon Union (IBU). With 34 World Cup wins, Neuner is ranked second all-time for career victories on the Biathlon World Cup tour. She has won the Overall World Cup title three times, in 2007–08, in 2009–10 and her final season in 2011–12. At only 25 years old, Neuner retired from the sport in March 2012, citing a lack of motivation and her desire for a normal life.
Kaisa Leena Mäkäräinen is a Finnish former world-champion and 3-time world-cup-winning biathlete, who currently competes for Kontiolahden Urheilijat. Outside sports, Mäkäräinen is currently studying to be a Physics teacher at the University of Eastern Finland in Joensuu. Her team coach is Jonne Kähkönen, while Jarmo Punkkinen is her ski coach.
Evgeny Romanovich Ustyugov is a Russian former biathlete. Born to cross-country skiers, Ustyugov was introduced to biathlon at the age of three. He started his career in junior tournaments in 2005, before going professional three years later in the European Championships. He is an Olympic champion in the men's 15 km mass start event at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Prior to the 2010 Olympic Games, his best World Championship finish in an individual event was 20th place.

Tarjei Bø is a Norwegian professional biathlete. Bø debuted in the Biathlon World Cup on 26 March 2009 in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. In the 2010 Winter Olympics he earned his first gold medal in the 4 × 7.5 km biathlon relay. On 10 December 2010 he won the sprint race in Hochfilzen, earning his first world cup victory. He also won the following pursuit race and anchored the winning relay team. Bø is the older brother of biathlete Johannes Thingnes Bø.

Together with Karin Oberhofer, Dominik Windisch and Lukas Hofer she won a bronze medal in the Mixed relay at the 2014 Winter Olympics, in Sochi, Russia. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea she won again the bronze medal in the Mixed relay with Lisa Vittozzi, Lukas Hofer and Dominik Windisch. At the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China she won her first individual medal in the Sprint. She is the 2019 Mass Start world champion, and 2020 Individual and Pursuit World Champion.

Biathlon at the 2018 Winter Olympics was held at the Alpensia Biathlon Centre, Daegwallyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do, South Korea.
