Alistair Hicks (born 1 August 1956) is a writer and art curator. He was Senior Curator at Deutsche Bank for 20 years [1] and is an international curator.
Hicks was educated at Eton College, and subsequently at the University of St Andrews, Scotland, graduating in 1978 with an Art History MA. Hicks then continued to study at Emory University, Georgia, U.S. to read Art and Business.
Hicks is the author of The Global Art Compass: New Directions in 21st Century Art, a survey of 21st century art. Hicks has curated several exhibitions, including Raymond Pettibon and Marko Maetamm at Kumu, Art Museum of Estonia [2] and of the Moscow Conceptualist Nikita Alexeev at Narrative Projects in London. [3] Hicks is author of several publications on contemporary art, including The School of London, [4] New British Art in the Saatchi Collection [5] and Art Works: Deutsche Bank Collection Group Head Office, Frankfurt. [6]
Hicks writes as a critic and commentator for The Financial Times , Apollo Magazine [7] and Frieze Magazine . He was a contributor to The Spectator , Vogue and The Times .
Hicks lives in London with his wife and has two daughters.

Raymond Pettibon is an American artist who lives and works in New York City. Pettibon came to prominence in the early 1980s in the southern California punk rock scene, creating posters and album art mainly for groups on SST Records, owned and operated by his older brother, Greg Ginn. He has subsequently become widely recognized in the fine art world for using American iconography variously pulled from literature, art history, philosophy, and religion to politics, sport, and sexuality.
The Young British Artists, or YBAs—also referred to as Brit artists and Britart—is a loose group of visual artists who first began to exhibit together in London in 1988. Many of the YBA artists graduated from the BA Fine Art course at Goldsmiths, in the late 1980s, whereas some from the group had trained at Royal College of Art.

Sir Norman Rosenthal is a British independent curator and art historian. From 1970 to 1974 he was Exhibitions Officer at Brighton Museum and Art Gallery. In 1974 he became a curator at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, leaving in 1976. The following year, in 1977, he joined the Royal Academy in London as Exhibitions Secretary where he remained until his resignation in 2008. Rosenthal has been a trustee of numerous different national and international cultural organisations since the 1980s; he is currently on the board of English National Ballet. In 2007, he was awarded a knighthood in the Queen's Birthday Honours List. Rosenthal is well known for his support of contemporary art, and is particularly associated with the German artists Joseph Beuys, Georg Baselitz, Anselm Kiefer and Julian Schnabel, the Italian painter Francesco Clemente, and the generation of British artists that came to prominence in the early 1990s known as the YBAs.
Artists Anonymous are an art group based in Berlin and London. They were founded in 2001 during their studies at Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) at the classes of Georg Baselitz and Stan Douglas. They finished studying in 2006.

Shock art is contemporary art that incorporates disturbing imagery, sound or scents to create a shocking experience. It is a way to disturb "smug, complacent and hypocritical" people. While the art form's proponents argue that it is "imbedded with social commentary" and critics dismiss it as "cultural pollution", it is an increasingly marketable art, described by one art critic in 2001 as "the safest kind of art that an artist can go into the business of making today".
