Critical reception

Record Collector wrote that frontman Brice Soord's songs "aren’t mere entertainments; they’re demanding pieces, both muscular and intricate, concerned with conflicts and dislocation, charting personal battles drawn out on large canvases." [1] The Bristol Post deemed the album "hugely impressive." [6]

The album was released on July 28, 1998, by Ignition Records and debuted at number 118 on the Billboard 200 chart. The record was produced by the band and Paul Crook. When the band started recording the album, drummer Bobby Marks left. He was replaced by different drummers: Fred Coury, Barry Brandt and Steve Riley. Dwain Miller eventually became the band's permanent drummer right before the album was released. The band had only written three songs when the label sent them to the studio, therefore Keel covered three Gene Simmons demos and re-recorded three songs from their debut album - "Tonight You're Mine" was renamed to "You're the Victim " for this album.

Days Between Stations is a partnership between guitarist Sepand Samzadeh and keyboardist Oscar Fuentes Bills. They named the band after the 1985 novel by Steve Erickson. Samzadeh describes the band's sound as "art-rock", while Fuentes describes it as "post-prog".

"Vermin Mangle" is a song by English rock band Cardiacs from their unfinished album LSD, intended as the album's final track. The song was written by Tim Smith, who played it live during solo performances in 2000 and 2006. Following Smith's death, it was released as a free download on 1 September 2020 through the band's Bandcamp page as the second single from the album, to mark his funeral that same day. Intended as a thank you to the group's fans, the song features the circus, progressive rock and psychedelic instrumentation that drove much of the band's work.
