Allied Publishers is an Indian-based academic and literary publishing house, established in 1934 by M. Graham Brash, and acquired by R.N. Sachdev in 1947. A wholly Indian management publishing company which operates from Mumbai and New Delhi. Its directors are Sunil Sachdev, Ravi Sachdev in New Delhi, and Arjun Sachdev in Mumbai. [1] [2] [3]

Overview

Allied publishes academic (text books and reference books) books for schools, colleges and higher academic institutes. It also promote Indian publications abroad as leading Exporters, through the Allied's Export Division in New Delhi .

Perhaps it is Indian publishing venture and it also imports books on a wide variety of subjects by universities, colleges and other institutions for development of their libraries, and to impart better knowledge is being fulfilled by Allied by the representation of nearly 100 prestigious publishers from US, UK and the continent, Japan and South-East Asia.

It has so far published Indian writers and poets .It has brought out collections of Keki N. Daruwalla, Arundhathi Subramaniam, Prabhanjan Mishra, Jerry Pinto, Vihang A. Naik, Sheila Gujral among other literary and critical texts.

Shakuntala Devi was an Indian mathematician, writer and mental calculator, popularly known as the "Human Computer". Devi strove to simplify numerical calculations for students. Her talent earned her a place in the 1982 edition of The Guinness Book of World Records. However, the certificate for the record was given posthumously on 30 July 2020, despite Devi achieving her world record on 18 June 1980 at Imperial College, London. Devi was a precocious child and she demonstrated her arithmetic abilities at the University of Mysore without any formal education.

Jayanta Mahapatra Indian English poet (born 1928)

Jayanta Mahapatra is an Indian English poet. He is the first Indian poet to win a Sahitya Akademi award for English poetry. He is the author of poems such as Indian Summer and Hunger, which are regarded as classics in modern Indian English literature. He was awarded a Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour in India in 2009. He returned the award in 2015 to protest against rising intolerance in India.

Dr. K. Ayyappa Paniker, sometimes spelt "Ayyappa Panicker", was an influential Malayalam poet, literary critic, and an academic and a scholar in modern and post-modern literary theories as well as ancient Indian aesthetics and literary traditions. He was one of the pioneers of modernism in Malayalam poetry, where his seminal works like Kurukshethram (1960), considered a turning point in Malayalam poetry, Ayyappapanikkarude Krithikal and Chintha and several essays were an important influence on the playwrights of his generation.

Civil Lines was an Indian literary magazine, launched in 1994 by publisher Ravi Dayal. In all its years of existence, the "magazine" has published exactly five issues, and none at all since the death of Ravi Dayal in 2006. Since the magazine is still nominally in existence, and was never "functional" to begin with, it cannot be said to be "defunct."

Sitakant Mahapatra Indian poet and literary critic

Sitakant Mahapatra is an eminent Indian poet and literary critic in Odia as well as English. He was in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) since 1961 until retiring in 1995, and has held ex officio posts such as the Chairman of National Book Trust, New Delhi since then.

A R Venkatachalapathy is an Indian historian, author and translator who writes and publishes in Tamil and English. Currently he is a professor at the Madras Institute of Development Studies (MIDS). He is noted for collecting and publishing the works of Tamil writer Pudhumaipithan.

C. S. Lakshmi is an Indian feminist writer and independent researcher in women's studies from India. She writes under the pseudonym Ambai.

Keki N. Daruwalla is an Indian poet and short story writer in English. He is also a former Indian Police Service officer. He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award, in 1984 for his poetry collection, The Keeper of the Dead, by the Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters. He was awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India, in 2014.

Jerry Pinto

Jerry Pinto is a Mumbai-based Indian English poet, novelist, short story writer, translator, as well as journalist. Pinto's works include Helen: The Life and Times of an H-Bomb (2006), which won the Best Book on Cinema Award at the 54th National Film Awards, Surviving Women (2000) and Asylum and Other Poems (2003). His first novel Em and the Big Hoom was published in 2012. Pinto won the Windham-Campbell prize in 2016 for his fiction. He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2016 for his novel Em and the Big Hoom.

Chandrika Balan is an Indian bilingual writer who has published books in both English and Malayalam, under the pen name Chandramathi, ചന്ദ്രമതി in Malayalam. Vihang A. Naik or Vihang Ashokbhai Naik is a modern bilingual poet from Gujarat, India. He has authored many collections of poetry in English and Gujarati, besides translating from Gujarati into English.
