The University of Nigeria, commonly referred to as UNN, is a federal and public research university located in Nsukka, Enugu State, Eastern part of Nigeria. Founded in 1955 by Nnamdi Azikiwe who was the Governor General of Nigeria between 1960 and 1963, and first President of Nigeria between 1963 and 1966. The University of Nigeria Nsukka was formally opened on 7 October 1960, as one of the first generation universities in Nigeria and is ranked among the top universities in Nigeria and Africa. The University of Nigeria has three campuses in Enugu State–Nsukka, Enugu, and Ituku-Ozalla – and the Aba campus in Abia State.

Benjamin Chukwuma Ozumba is a Nigerian Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology who served as the 14th Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He succeeded Bath Okolo who was the 13th Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria. After his tenure, he handed over to the current Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Professor Charles Arinzechukwu Igwe. Ozumba served as the provost of the college of medicine of the same university between the years 2004 and 2008. The University of Nigeria became the first university in Nigeria to assemble laptops when he was appointed Vice Chancellor and the university opened its first indigenous University Laptop Assembly Complex. The first batch of laptops bearing the Lion brand were released. UNN also founded the Lion Science Park, Nigeria's first university-based science park. A gasification plant was constructed to create synthetic gas from organic solid materials for use in the production of electric power and other uses for the University of Nigeria community. During his tenure also, the University of Nigeria held the first position amongst Nigerian universities in the Webometrics University Ranking for more than three times in Google Scholar citation profiles.
Frank Nwachukwu Ndili was the 1st Nigerian nuclear physicist and the 7th vice chancellor (president) of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He served as Vice Chancellor (President) of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka from 1980 until he was succeeded by professor Chimere Ikoku in 1985. He left the office after a long and controversial investigation by the panel of inquiry. However, he is believed to have been forthright even where his predecessor Umaru Shehu (1978–1979) threaded carefully. During Professor Ndili's Vice-Chancellorship, effort was undertaken for the first time to rebuild and refurbish the University of Nigeria following its devastation by the Nigerian Civil War. Ndili envisioned that the University would be destined for world-class status and designed a Master Plan to that effect. Today, the grand University entryway, the Nnamdi Azikiwe Library, the School of General Studies, and the Faculty of Arts Complex stand as testimony to his grand vision.

Charles Arinzechukwu Igwe is a Nigerian professor of soil science and the 15th Vice Chancellor of University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He joined the university in the year 1976 as a soil survey assistant and in 1976 he became an academic staff of the institution. In 2016, Charles was appointed the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) and re-appointed in 2018.

Ugochukwu Uba is a Nigerian politician and former senator of the Anambra South Senatorial Zone. In 2021, he was elected as a governorship candidate of a faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the Anambra State gubernatorial election. He represented Anambra South Senatorial Zone from 2003 to 2007.
Edith Ogonnaya Nwosu is a Nigerian Professor of Corporate Law and the immediate-past Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC). Before her appointment as the DVC, she was the Associate Dean of Students Affairs and the orator of the institution.
Nkemakonam Nwolisa Osadebe (1955–2015) was a Nigerian academic professor of engineering at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. His researches has been cited in publications and practices involving civil engineering in Nigeria. He was the acting head of the civil engineering department in UNN from 1993 to 1996. From 2004 until 2008, he served as the director of the National Equipment Maintenance and Development Centre (NEMDC), an organisation in the university. Osadebe has held positions in the Nigerian educational system including Dean, Faculty of Engineering (2008–2010), chairman, University of Nigeria Secondary School, Nsukka Campus Board of Governors from 2004 to 2007. In 2008, he earned the Vice-Chancellor's Award.
Kenneth Chibuzor Ofokansi is a Nigerian professor of pharmaceutics of the University of Nigeria. He was the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and the Director of International Collaboration of the university, in which time he supervised the production of the first indigenous laptop assembly line of a Nigerian university. He was also the chairman, Senate Ceremonials of the University of Nigeria. He was awarded the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship in 2006. Ofokansi delivered the 140th Inaugural lecture of the University of Nigeria on August 16, 2018.
Anthony Ndubueze Nzeako is a Nigerian professor of electronic engineering. He served as the former Dean of the Faculties of Engineering in three Universities: University of Nigeria, Nsukka; Cross River University of Technology, Calabar, and Veritas University, Abuja, where he was the founding dean. Nzeako is the founding director, Computer Communications Centre, University of Nigeria, Nsukka and one of the founding fathers of Abia State, Nigeria, who served as secretary of the Charter of Equity Committee which created the name of the state. Nzeako is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE); and, American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). Nzeako's publications have been cited 307 times according to the AD Scientific index ranking, and 308 times according to the google scholar index.
