Altered State was a progressive rock band based in Huntington Beach, CA. Influenced by Pink Floyd, Rush, Led Zeppelin and U2. Altered State has been described [1] as "an inventive band with unique arrangements, melodic vocals and great harmonies."

History

Altered State was formed in 1990 in Huntington Beach, CA by vocalist/guitarist Gregory Markel, drummer Chip Moreland and guitarist Curtis Mathewson, previously performing together in the band Show of Hands. In 1990, Altered State signed with Warner Bros. Records

1991 the band released their eponymous debut album and the first single, Step Into My Groove. The 1992 single Ghost Beside My Bed, went #1 at Rock Radio [2] in several states in the U.S. It was the most requested song on KQLZ Pirate Radio, the station set up a special show for the band at The Roxy in Hollywood, CA. [3] Gregory Markel's performance that night is highlighted in Vicki Hamilton's book Appetite for Dysfunction: A Cautionary Tale.

Opiate is an EP by American rock band Tool. It was produced and engineered by Sylvia Massy and former Minor Threat bassist Steve Hansgen. Eric Carr American musician

Paul Charles Caravello, better known professionally as Eric Carr, was an American musician and multi-instrumentalist who was the drummer for the rock band Kiss from 1980 to 1991. Caravello was selected as the new Kiss drummer after Peter Criss departed, when he chose the stage name "Eric Carr" and took up The Fox persona. He remained a member of Kiss until his death from heart cancer on November 24, 1991, at the age of 41.

Living Sacrifice is an American heavy metal band formed in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1989. The band has released eight studio albums, out of which the first three were recorded under R.E.X. Records with their original vocalist Darren Johnson as a more thrash metal and death metal oriented band. The band evolved into a groove metal and metalcore style beginning with Reborn (1997) under Solid State Records with the original guitarist Bruce Fitzhugh on vocals. In 2003, the group split up, due to other projects and later their label, Solid State, released their best-of album, In Memoriam (2005). In the early 1990s, he was a member of American rock band Altered State, as a vocalist, guitarist and songwriter. Markel is the winner of the 2016 Peace Song Award in the pop/rock category for the song, "Surrender Now."
